Kennedy's new vaccine panel lacks experience and shouldn't meet, Sen. Cassidy says

Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., on Monday criticized Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.s picks for a key federal vaccine advisory committee and called for the groups next meeting to be delayed until more members with relevant expertise can be appointed.
Kennedy abruptly fired all 17 members of Centers for Disease Control and Preventions Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices this month and replaced them with eight new members, including known vaccine skeptics. That group is scheduled to meet for the first time Wednesday and Thursday.
Cassidy, a medical doctor who is the chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, was a key vote in Kennedys confirmation. He said he voted for Kennedy after Kennedy made a number of commitments, including not to make changes to ACIP, a highly influential panel that makes vaccine recommendations and shapes the childhood vaccination schedule.
Cassidy expressed concerns Monday on X about the newly appointed members. Although the appointees to ACIP have scientific credentials, many do not have significant experience studying microbiology, epidemiology or immunology. In particular, some lack experience studying new technologies such as mRNA vaccines, and may even have a preconceived bias against them, Cassidy wrote.

Well Cassidy was the deciding vote that allowed RFK Jr to pass committee.
He owns any decision that RFK Jr does.
What is the point of a confirmation hearing anyway?
When someone Republican appointees will say anything to get confirmed but do differently after confirmed.

(14,411 posts)Maybe we don't need all those vaccines.
Look at all the lives and money that was saved with the bleach enemas. Yeah, it burned peoples' asses a bit but they were instantly cured of Covid.

RFK Jr. was never qualified to head the Department of Health and Human Services.
But then, he is just one of so many Trump appointees who are totally unqualified for the jobs they have...all confirmed by a Republican Senate that is evidently not qualified to make consequential decisions that affect the nation's future.
When you look at the overall picture, it becomes evident that the most unqualified person is president Trump.
And yet, 77+ million people voted for him, making them the most unqualified electorate in the history of the United States.

(126,606 posts)A House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health hearing came to a brief halt Tuesday as the Republican chair asked Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to retract his accusations that a Democratic members stance on vaccines was influenced by campaign contributions from pharmaceutical companies.
Kennedy appeared before the subcommittee to defend the Trump administrations budget request, which includes steep cuts to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.), ranking member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, used his time to blast the firings at HHS and the apparent lack of transparency under Kennedys tenure so far. He and other Democrats said many of their letters to the HHS have gone unanswered, with Pallone counting 10 of his letters receiving no response.

You have made a number of major decisions about vaccines. And
theres been no public comment process or public accountability on that either. What are you afraid of? he asked Kennedy.

(3 posts)As far as I am concerned, it was an open book test and Cassidy still voted for RFK Jr's confirmation. Now he has "concerns"?
