No Kings protest organizers announce July 17 as next demonstration

Source: Axios

Organizers of last weekend's "No Kings" protests are celebrating the event as the one of the largest mass demonstrations in U.S. history, and already have another rally on the books.

Why it matters: Building off the success of Saturday's rallies, Transformative Justice Coalition announced Monday the next protests are planned for July 17 in honor of Civil Rights activist and lawmaker John Lewis who died on that date in 2020.

The June 14 protests were scheduled to counter President Trump's military parade in Washington, D.C., as a public rebuke to what organizers say is Trump's authoritarian policies.

By the numbers: More than 2,100 No Kings events took place across 20 countries on Saturday, according to Ezra Levin from Indivisible.

whose name was also Kevin. I thought it would be kind of a joke to watch it,
but I had never heard of it before getting this disk.

Possibly the WORST movie I've ever seen, horrid story,
at the top of my "never want to see again" list. Luckily I've started to forget about it...

Funny that it was called "We need to talk about Kevin" but seems that nobody ever did...

Focus on including everyone that lives in small and medium population towns and cities in red states and areas. GOP associated areas that are being hammered just as hard by the BS. And hit their media sources as well. They need to know we’re watching, and care.

Fort Worth could start at 6:30 if it is downtown, since parking is free after 6 at street meters and several very large garages.

More of the smaller locations might participate since there would not be a drive into a city.
Of course each area can decide the best time but it is going to be very difficult to get larger numbers on a weekday

We were traveling and I missed it, but it was part of the continual engagement. I rather doubt the growth has to be a straight line. With Trump being who he is, we are bound to have other reasons to turn out in big numbers. That may end up not being the only event around that time.

I was blessed to hear John Lewis tell his preaching to chickens story four times in person. I have several copies of his books signed by him. I still remember Congressman Lewis walking into a seminar at the 2016 national convention next to Kareem. The height difference was amusing. It was a great seminar and I really admire Kareem

I still remember when Congressman Al Green introduced me to Congressman Lewis as a voting rights attorney and I got to shake his hand. BTW, I do corporate law but volunteer on voter protection efforts. My kids still laugh at this.

Organizers of the No Kings protests say they plan to continue another round of demonstrations on July 17. They state that more than 2,000 demonstrations were held throughout the United States on Saturday, objecting to President Donald Trump's policies.

The protests will be held on the fifth anniversary of the death of Rep. John Lewis, who was the last surviving member of the Big Six, which helped organize the 1963 March on Washington.

The theme of the July 17 protests will be "Good Trouble Lives On," a nod to Lewis’ quote: “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and redeem the soul of America.”

"We're going to make good trouble because good trouble lives on, and we will not stop until we win this fight," said Barbara R. Arnwine, president and founder of the Transformative Justice Coalition. "No kings, no tyrants, no despots, and we've got to always have good trouble. So we are determined that on July 17, we're asking all of you—each and every one of you—to turn out and host events in your city."
