Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum forcefully rejected accusations from U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem that she incited violence during protests in Los Angeles, calling the claims "absolutely false" and a clear misunderstanding.
In a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, Sheinbaum pointed to her earlier press briefing where she urged demonstrators to act peacefully, distancing herself from any endorsement of violence. "We do not agree with violent actions as a form of protest," Sheinbaum said, condemning acts like the burning of patrol cars as provocations rather than legitimate resistance.
Why It Matters
Despite falling illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border and increased enforcement within Mexico itself, tensions remain between the two countries over the handling of mass migration in recent years, with President Donald Trump threatening tariffs on the country for what he believes is a lack of action on fentanyl smuggling by Mexican cartels.
What To Know
Sheinbaum's comments followed Noem's Oval Office statement in which Noem accused her of encouraging unrest in Los Angeles in recent days.

(2,502 posts)does the same thing Trump is doing? Grabbing Americans in Mexico, and dumping them in some foreign country? Or just shoving them back over the border with nothing but the clothes on their backs?
