Secretary Doug Collins outlines a plan for 'streamlining' care at Veterans Affairs

Source: Scripps News

As the Trump administration approaches 100 days in its second term, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins describes a focus on 'customer service' as he settles into his role leading the department, amid efforts to trim the federal government.

"We're going to service the veterans and the needs that that they have statutorily, and what they've been, what they've earned. So our healthcare benefits, disability benefits, education benefits, housing, all those kind of things. So we're very much focused on customer service," Collins said. "The biggest difference you're going to see is a streamlining and really a focus on making sure that everything we do in the VA is efficiently serviced toward that veteran process."

Across agencies, there was has been an effort from the administration to trim the workforce and cut what its views as waste. The VA has canceled DEI related contracts, canceled nearly 600 "non-mission critical or duplicative contracts," and sought to place probationary employees on leave.

"And there was a number of 15% put out of our workforce, which for us is rather large. Most people don't realize that the VA workforce currently is larger than the active duty Army. So that would be a lot of people. 80,000 is one of the numbers thrown around. But it's a goal for us, because we're never going to put in jeopardy patient health care or the disability benefits getting to the people who need them, the veterans who have earned them," Collins said.

None of this is a "trim". It's a wholesale "gut".

"Streamlining"="fuck-over," as in "One more opportunity for trump, to fuck-over U.S. veterans."

messing with the Veterans Administration and firing of so many government employees who are vets like him.

He has a long way to go to see the light, but it's a start. His wife is now hopeful, for the first time in years, that he will eventually see that the emperor has no clothes.

is that Vets have "Veteran's Preference" for federal jobs. It's a "reward/benefit" for their service but it IS a special "preference" that puts them ahead of others applying for any federal position (in the scoring).

So when they are slashing and burning through various agencies, with the number of "newer" (Gulf War/Afghanistan War/Iraq War) Vets in the system (the bulk who started post-9/11), they are running into Vets who have completed their 20 years active duty service and are making that transition to civilian government... And they are now getting targeted by the DOGE boys as being "probationary".

GOP will use the same philosophy as for profit insurance companies: save costs when people die faster.

- No ongoing care for chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease. It's wasteful. Either get healthy or...

- No more care for PTSD, depression, anxiety or any of that woke shit. Just slap them upside the head with a helmet. That'll fix it.

- Absolutely no care for HIV. Ditto no care for sexually transmitted diseases or anything you caught while using a needle. Perverts don't deserve care.

- No maternity care or other women's stuff. Women don't belong in the armed services.

- Absolutely no vaccines. That stuff will kill you.

- Who's left? They can use self-check in and the AI assistant will take vitals. You don't really need to talk to a doctor do you? AI is printing out your Rx for Ivermectin. Fill it at the feed store.

You think I'm kidding? I remember how they talked about AIDS patients.
