House Republican seeks prosecution of former New York governor

Source: Politico

House Oversight Chair James Comer is asking the Department of Justice to prosecute former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for lying to Congress as part of its investigation into New York State’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Comer, a Kentucky Republican, accused Cuomo, a Democrat now running for New York City mayor, of making “making criminally false statements” around the state’s management of the pandemic in nursing homes. Former Rep. Brad Wenstrup, the chair of the now-disbanded House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, had previously referred Cuomo to former Attorney General Merrick Garland for prosecution — a request that the Biden administration appeared to ignore.

But Comer’s decision to return to the referral suggests the Trump administration may now be willing to engage. In a statement, Comer demanded Cuomo be prosecuted “to the fullest extent of the law.”

“Andrew Cuomo is a man with a history of corruption and deceit, now caught red-handed lying to Congress during the Select Subcommittee’s investigation into the COVID-19 nursing home tragedy in New York,” he said. “This wasn’t a slip-up—it was a calculated cover-up by a man seeking to shield himself from responsibility for the devastating loss of life in New York’s nursing homes.” The Justice Department did not immediately return a request for comment.

1. In a strange coincidence, Cuomo is currently front-runner in the mayoral race in New York. Things can change by November

although this was a result of hearings that they had Cuomo testify in last year (he was subpoenaed in March 2024, testified "privately" in June 2024, several months before he was reported to consider running for NYC mayor, and later testified publicly in September 2024) -

along with the ones here in PA with Dr. Rachael Levine (who was PA's Secretary of Health before moving to the Biden Administration as an Asst. Secty in HHS) and Philly's dailies along with those done by the county adjoining me (the border of which is a couple blocks away). I even slid in some Jersey ones if they didn't overlap too much.

5. They would LOVE to control NYC. If Cuomo is elected, they won't. Though I am the last person

to overlook sexual harassment, the circumstances we are in are unique, and NYC needs a junkyard dog as Mayor.

Cuomo is a junkyard dog.
