Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's bag, including $3,000 in cash, is stolen from DC restaurant

Source: CNN

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem fell victim to a thief while eating dinner at a downtown Washington, DC, restaurant Sunday night, the secretary confirmed Monday.

Noem, who was asked about the theft at the White House Easter Egg Roll, acknowledged the incident and said the matter has not been resolved.

The Secret Service, which provides security for Noem, reviewed security camera footage at the restaurant and saw an unknown white male wearing a medical mask steal her bag and leave the restaurant, a law enforcement source said.

Not that it's OK to steal anybody's purse, but why on earth did she have that much cash with her in the first place? And the purse contained her makeup bag as well, probably took up most of the space in the purse.

My wife and I have taken that much and more on trips to Las Vegas(prior to getting a casino host, now we wire some over). 10k in 100s is only about 1/2 inch thick surprisingly.

Day to day, I keep maybe 150-200. Which usually gets carried for months since I use my card for basically everything. I don't think my wife keeps cash on her at all now.

as it is currently presented??? puppykiller is at a restaurant with her (no doubt) VERY expensive purse, with her scurity team somewhere nearby (at least one would think so), and yet, some complete stranger, complete with mask, walks up, grabs her purse, and makes it out of the restaurant without getting apprehended??? I call BS.

My purse, which is NOT expensive, and does NOT contain 3k in cash, is never out of my sight. Depending on the setting, it is either beside me, or at my feet. I never hang my purse on the back of a chair.

The article didn't mention any being stolen. Maybe an oversight, or people just assume they must have been in her wallet with the cash.

To be generous, perhaps folks from N Dakota aren't used to life in a big city and do things that East/West Coasters wouldn't dream of doing like carrying around large amounts of cash?

I wonder if the thief knew who he was stealing from.

And the guy who did it, I’m sure he had no idea what kind of haul he was going to get. It’s a cheap n cheesy burgers and bar food place with faux wood plastic chairs and red lobster like booths. I’d guess is during any given lunch, you could rob everyone in the place and not come up with 3k.
