Sen. Chris Van Hollen says America is in a 'constitutional crisis' as Trump disregards court orders in the Abrego Garcia

Source: NBC

Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., on Sunday accused President Donald Trump of sending the U.S. into a constitutional crisis, saying members of the Trump administration “are very much flouting the courts as we speak.”

Asked directly on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” whether the U.S. is currently in a constitutional crisis, Van Hollen said, “Yes, we are.”

The senator’s remarks come days after he returned from a trip to El Salvador where he met with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who the Trump administration admitted was mistakenly deported to El Salvador last month.

Abrego Garcia has become the center of a weekslong legal and political battle, with the government multiple times contending in court that Abrego Garcia is now in the custody of El Salvador and there’s nothing it can do to bring him back.

News flash: we have been in a constitutional crisis continuously since at least 2000 with Bush v Gore. And certainly Heller, and Citizen's United. The whole patriot act was a constitutional crisis, with Congress never declaring war in either Iraq or Afghanistan. The confirmation of the likes of Scalia, Alito, Beer Bong guy and all the others who refused to answer direct question about how they would inter[ret the law has been an ongoing constitutional crisis. The revelation of billionaires paying huge sums of money and other benefits to SC Justices is a constitutional crisis. The failure to disbar lawyers who are fighting against the rule of law is a constitutional crisis. And so on.

I am glad that 1/10 of 1% of the politicians and media are now willing to whisper this in public now. I guess that is progress. But we should have been dealing with this gathering constitutional crisis for the past 25 years.
