American doctor receives email from immigration officials telling her to leave the country immediately
Source: NBC News
A doctor born in the United States says she received an email from federal immigration authorities demanding that she leave the country immediately.
Lisa Anderson, a physician from Cromwell, Connecticut, told NBC Connecticut on Wednesday that she recently received a letter from the Department of Homeland Security telling her, It is time for you to leave the United States."
Immigration authorities have been pushing noncitizens to leave of their own volition, or self-deport, as the number of deportations remains at similar levels to last year.
But Anderson, 58, was born in Pennsylvania and is a U.S. citizen.

Anderson has been carrying her U.S. passport on her at all times since receiving the email and is seeking an immigration attorney.

(113,237 posts)It's very likely to be a crank email, administration assholes don't work this way.
However, it might be worth retaining a lawyer and be ready to have an injunction filed should this call represent a ramping up of terror tactics against random US citizens by this administration.
This story requires more information.

Still, she's got a physician's income and can afford to get a lawyer on retainer just in case, at least until the email is proven to be a fake. It's what I'd do in her shoes, even though it's more likely to be some patient who wanted opiates and didn't get them rather than anything official from the administration run amok.

(23,466 posts)From the article linked in OP. Also the use of the word "alien" ... I thought we got rid of that word. There's a video in the article too. She says the email is vetted.
"To be clear: If you are an alien, being in the United States is a privilege not a right," the officials added. "We are acting in the best interest of the country and enforcing the law accordingly."
The email to Anderson comes days after a Boston immigration attorney who is also a U.S. citizen received the same email from DHS, telling her to leave the country within seven days. The attorney, Nicole Micheroni, told MSNBC that as of Tuesday, federal officials had not followed up.
RandomNumbers
(18,547 posts)that if an illegal immigrant ( "alien" ) provided an email address on some form somewhere sometime, that ICE / CBP / whoever got hold of, and that email address was actually for an American citizen - "oh well" ... "mistakes may be made" ... that sort of thing.
It's possibly complete bullshit, but ...
I've seen occasions where people have recommended to give random email addresses in certain circumstances. Who knows what data the fascist regime can access on its targets? What they are saying here, I think, is that someone they "know" to be an "alien" had provide this email address somewhere, and that is why they sent the letter.
(except they weren't responding to this case specifically, just claiming this is the reason this kind of mistake could happen)
Okay that is what I think the line means, but the details are rather insignificant, IMO. The whole process is bullshit, I am sure it is unconstitutional (even though I am neither lawyer or constitutional scholar, but I've read the damn thing, unlike obviously some in this administration). The implications are horrific, particularly combined with the apparent ability of the administration to disappear someone without meaningful challenge.
