LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Pilots with Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air are seeking a release from mediation in what could be a step toward a potential strike against the airline.

Teamsters Local 2118, which represents about 1,400 pilots, said they have requested that the National Mediation Board release them from mediation with the company.

If that request is granted, the Mediation Board can offer binding arbitration for pilots and Allegiant to settle their remaining issues.

Should either party reject arbitration, a 30-day "cooling-off" period would begin. Once that period is over, the pilots can legally strike.
