House GOP adopts Trump budget plan after conservatives fold

Source: CBS News

Updated on: April 10, 2025 / 11:24 AM EDT

Washington — The House on Thursday adopted a budget blueprint for President Trump's agenda after Republican leaders scrambled to convince GOP holdouts who want deeper spending cuts to back it.

The resolution was adopted in a 216-214 vote, with two Republicans — Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Victoria Spartz of Indiana — joining all Democrats to vote against it.

About a dozen House conservatives ultimately flipped their opposition after receiving assurances from leaders that the Senate would pursue $1.5 trillion in savings, at a minimum. "Our two chambers are directly aligned," House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, said before the vote. "We're committed to finding at least $1.5 trillion in savings for the American people while also preserving our essential programs."

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, a South Dakota Republican, echoed that the Senate is "aligned with the House in terms of what their budget resolution outlined in terms of savings." "The speaker talked about $1.5 trillion dollars. We have a lot of United States senators who believe that is a minimum," Thune said.

Reverse Robin Hood. Steal from the poor and middle class and give to the rich.

That $1.5T in savings is the accumulated savings over 10 years. I’m not saying it’s not going to hurt a lot of people, because it will. But it’s ultimately a 2.5% reduction in the Federal Budget.

Does that mean that they’re not cutting $880 billion from Medicaid?

Can’t find a link for that other than Facebook but those will give you an idea

Louisiana ranks second in Medicaid enrollment, at nearly 32% — a reflection of the state's high poverty rate. …. Of the eight GOP-held House districts with the most Medicaid enrollees due to the expansion, four are in Louisiana. Johnson's largely rural district ranks sixth in expansion enrollees.

In Johnson’s rural Louisiana district, nearly 25% of adults under age 65 rely on Medicaid, according to an NBC News analysis, while nearly 20% of households receive food stamps. Politically, it’s a deep-red district that Johnson won with 85% of the vote in November. Louisiana was one of the states that expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, and the program now covers 72 million people across the country.

he will now go on a rampage to destroy the last of the government because the repuke cowards just gave him carte blanch to act like the dictator that he's always dreamed of.

I just loved the kabuki theater of stupidity by some rebukes that were "going to stand strong!" and were "a firm no!"

just like everything in the past, they just proved themselves to be jelly fish.

we are a colossally stupid nation.
