'Elephant in the room': GOP insiders say Trump just 'compounded' difficulty of midterms

Source: Raw Story

April 9, 2025 9:22AM ET

As the markets fall sharply, President Donald Trump seems to be blissfully unaware of how this will cost the GOP financially during a Tuesday night fundraising dinner, according to a NOTUS report. "There was an elephant in the room: the roiling unease among some members of his party — and major donors — regarding the tariffs on the eve of their implementation," the article, which holds a double byline for Alex Roarty and Taylor Giorno, noted.

Their sources claimed, "They were aware of one major contributor who temporarily suspended all political giving because of the economic uncertainty related to the tariffs." With midterms on the minds of many, Roarty and Giorno noted concerns among the GOP are growing because, "Already this year, House GOP candidates were badly outraised in a pair of special elections, and most party strategists expected — even before the onset of the tariffs — that they would be at a financial disadvantage next November."

The pair went on to pen how the slim majority held by the GOP in the House could dwindle as, "Democrats have already aggressively targeted GOP lawmakers in both legislative bodies ahead of the midterm elections, arguing that Trump’s tariffs will hurt the economy. It’s a point Republican donors have also raised in recent days."

Their sources said, “'It’s a midterm. Fundraising was always going to be tricky,' said one GOP strategist who requested anonymity to speak candidly. 'And now you’re taking that baseline difficulty and compounding it with the tariffs.'”

Trump put effective 10% tariffs on all countries and the net effect was Wall Street shot up (i.e. recovered from the shock, temporarily).

Trump will keep playing this Reality Game Show crap - normalizing the chaos. But a lot of people are going to look for a way out.

That's how they roll. If something is inconvenient to their plans, like a legal ruling or the Constitution, They merely rewrite the definitions to suit.

You can't have it both ways.

B/c TSF decided to act like a dictator, everything was golden b/c Republicans control both Houses of Congress and didn't interfere with him.

But b/c TSF decided to act like a dictator, there's a chance that Republicans WON'T be returning to sit on the sidelines after 2026. Democrats will likely legislate, hold hearings, and draw several articles of impeachment.

Hope you enjoy your two years of dictatorship Donny. That's all you'll get.

7. A good many of the MAGA low-information voters

...will not vote in the midterms. They are low-information and also low-motivation. Plus by then all their flippin' eggs and burgers will cost a heck of a lot more. And their Ma died of measles or Ebola.

Wall Street sleazebags and billionaires will still vote, but they may not be totally happy with the Trump economy or with the tariffs.

Plus by then Dump may have a stroke or heart attack. Let's pray for him.

An neo-nazi oligarch breaking the federal government.
Mistreatment of Ukraine.
A madman president destroying the world’s trading system, manipulating the stock market.
Republican Cowards in Congress supporting every dumb or evil move trump makes.
And there will be a lot more.

Don't let them forget.

He just doesn’t give a fuck. He‘s getting the money directly from the bribing AND embezzling from the RNC. He doesn’t need them anymore, except for the thrill of terrorizing them, they are useless to him.

continue to get mad at the Rs. Those reps I am willing to bet get unreported cash gratuities besides election donations. Those may stop, if they continue to put in place policies that their benefactors don't like. Money and power are these people's only loyalty.
