Who votes in Alaska's midterm primaries, and who are the candidates trying to win?

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Alaska is in the midst of one of its most competitive election cycles in years.

Seventeen candidates have entered the race for Alaska’s next governor. National pollsters say one-term former congresswoman Mary Peltola has turned the race against U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan, who’s been in office more than a decade, into a toss-up. And a political newcomer, Bill Hill, has raised significant money to challenge Rep. Nick Begich, a candidate whose family name carries significant weight in Alaska politics.

But to win, the candidates need something more valuable than attack ads, more valuable than big rallies, more valuable than money.

They need votes.
