Birmingham mayoral candidates participate in forum ahead of August municipal election

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Birmingham’s mayoral election is less than 26 days away, and Thursday night, the majority of those looking for your vote shared their platform in a candidate forum.

The room at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1 was full of people who wanted to hear from the candidates. The forum was a healthy conversation between the candidates to talk about the issues that affect those who will be voting for them in the August election.

Six out of nine candidates running for mayor participated in the forum. Those candidates are state Rep. Juandalynn Givan, Jefferson County commissioner LaShunda Scales, Jeremy Littlepage, Brian Rice, Frank Woodson and Kamau Afrika.

Issues discussed during the forum included disparities across the city, open positions across city departments and the Regional Water Works Board take over from the state. With the election less than a month away, voters said this forum helped them get closer to deciding who they’ll cast their ballot for.
