Fires in northern Minnesota and Canada are sending smoke southward and eastward right now. Stepping outdoors is like standing near a campfire that smokes too much. Since I had lung issues, I'm pretty much staying indoors, but it's affecting a wide spectrum of people.
My wife, who had planned to march in a local festive parade, in support of our favorite Democratic state Senate candidate, got an email saying that the parade had been canceled. Many events have been canceled in many parts of the Twin Cities metro area in Minnesota.
This is not a normal thing. Climate change has cause warmer temperatures and less rain this Summer. The result is wildfires here and in Canada. El Nino is wreaking havoc elsewhere. Texas, normally a pretty dry state, is flooded. Again!
And what is the Trump administration doing about this? Denying it, as usual. Taking no responsibility, and eliminating investigation and regulation in many areas.
Not good. Very much not good.

(5,419 posts)A few years ago wildfire smoke from Canada was treated as an anomaly. I recall one from the 90s treated that way. Now it's an annual event included in the weather forecasts.
