(14,418 posts)when we consider how corporations today have kowtowed to another fascist dictator. If we get past all this and the Democrats take power, they need to use the full force of the government to rectify the damage that's been done and not worry about shaking up the corporate world. If Trump has proved anything, it's that corporations can be pushovers.
On the Hays Office censorship: I read Raising Kane years ago, which was basically a lengthy essay by Pauline Kael claiming that Welles didn't deserve as much credit for the "vision" of Citizen Kane as Herman Mankiewicz, the screenwriter. I disagreed but that's beside the point. The book included the original script for Kane and the final shooting script. The original included a brothel scene that was written just so the Hays Office would have something to cut. It was like a diversion or a bargaining chip to protect other scenes from censorship, like "Let us keep the love nest scene and we'll drop the brothel one." Apparently that was common practice at the time. You could probably fill a book with all the scenes from famous movies that were written just to give the Hays Office a trophy.
