There are a lot of misrepresentations and misunderstandings about the Democratic Party. The Republicans have been very successful in defining the Democrats, in a lot of instances. They talk the talk but they don't walk the walk.
Any progress that has been made in this country in the last 100 years can be traced to the Democratic Party, not the Republicans.
When there were sweatshops and child labor, it was not the Republicans that were fighting to end it. It was not the Republicans that fought to get the 40-hour work week. It was not Republicans that fought to get paid holidays and vacation time for workers. It was the Democratic Party.
When people were forced to work for pennies and dimes, it was the Democratic Party that proposed a minimum wage for workers. It was the Democratic Party that worked to get healthcare for the American people.
It was not Republicans that fought for equality and civil rights for all our people. Even today, they stand in the way of people demanding to be treated fairly and humanely. They have shown no empathy for people in need. It is always the Democratic Party that has the courage to stand up for all our citizens, regardless of sex or national origin. Republicans have been violently opposed.
At the end of the day, when all the progress has been measured, it is the Democratic Party that has done the walk.

(4,341 posts)The Democrats have done things like expand affordable healthcare and make Pharmaceuticals more affordable, but the average worker has still seen his pay power decline. This has gone on for the past decades. This is the reason almost 50% of the electorate considers itself independent. Democrats need to show that they are going to do something in this regard.

(48 posts)The reality of the matter is people don't feel like they're in a good place. If you want to win those people over you need to offer them policies that will improve their material conditions.

(6,688 posts)Yes I think it does.
Democrats are going along trying to do business as usual and pretty much ignoring the "PR" damage the repukes are doing: the brainwashing of millions with "Democrats are bad" bullshit while hardly ever talking about why "repukes are good."
Apparently many people in this country are more likely to hear and respond to bad news because they're already angry and need to feed it. That's what repukes and the MSM are doing and have been doing: feeding it. Passing great legislation isn't going to change people's minds about the Democrats if all they hear is the negative shit from the repukes.
And let's not forget that millions in this country get all their "news" from right-wing outlets. Again, "Democrats are bad."
Just my opinion, but you asked.
