News You May Have Missed

There's a lot going on right now in this country and in the world.
There's a lot of news currently flying below the radar because of it. So I thought I'd take a few and share some things that I haven't seen posted here 😀

* Canada to be hit with increased U.S. tariffs on fresh mushrooms https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/trumps-tariffs/article/us-moves-to-slap-more-tariffs-on-fresh-canadian-mushrooms/]
"The U.S. is moving to slap more tariffs on fresh Canadian-grown mushrooms in response to a U.S. Department of Commerce probe that an industry representative said did not prove Canadian growers are selling unfairly.

A fact sheet provided by Mushrooms Canada said the U.S. department’s preliminary anti-dumping duty determination, released Tuesday, proposes an 8.26 per cent tariff on most fresh Canadian mushrooms.

Three companies are being hit with individual tariff levels. Champ’s Fresh Farms Inc. is facing a 8.71 duty, Highline Produce Limited is braced for a 11.80 tariff and Farmers’ Fresh Mushrooms, Inc. is looking at a two per cent tariff.

Mushrooms Canada CEO Ryan Koeslag said the tariff rates show the idiosyncrasies of U.S. anti-dumping law, rather than the commercial realities of the North American mushroom market."

Arrest of American who has given $1m in aid to Palestine prompts fears of ‘growing repression from Trump’

* Marco Rubio launches campaign to dismantle international criminal court https://archive.ph/ECtde]
Trump’s secretary of state claims the global tribunal is interfering with US military and law enforcement operations. Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, launched a campaign to dismantle the international criminal court (ICC) on Monday, claiming the global tribunal was interfering with US military and law enforcement operations at the risk of American sovereignty.
Rubio invoked images of US border patrol agents and elected leaders being “dragged before an international court” and tried by judges from around the world in a lengthy op-ed published in the Wall Street Journal Monday.
“If we stand idle, all of them will be at the mercy of foreign judges, thousands of miles away – facing the constant risk of prosecution and even imprisonment for the so-called ‘crime’ of defending their own country,” Rubio warned in a companion video posted to X.
The state department plan to “dismantle” the ICC will involve pressuring other nations to abandon the court, according to CNN. “Nations that refuse to reject the ICC’s false authority while relying on US assistance are likely to come under increased scrutiny,” an official told the outlet, adding that possible punishments could involve sanctions, travel bans and visa revocations.

* U.S. Rejects ICC Jurisdiction: A Preemptive Move Against Potential Prosecution of Trump? https://news.sbs.co.kr/english/article.do?news_id=N1008639616&plink=COPYPASTE&cooper=SBSNEWSEND

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that he conveyed this position to ICC President Tomoko Akane, according to a press release issued by the Department of Justice, adding that the "ICC is increasingly acting in a lawless and illegitimate manner."

In a letter to President Akane, Acting Attorney General Blanche argued that the ICC engages in "selective law enforcement" and faces "allegations of internal misconduct," calling its fairness, credibility, and legitimacy into question.

The Department of Justice emphasized, "Under international law, a treaty cannot bind a state that has not consented to it," adding, "The United States is not a party to the Rome Statute and has not consented to the authority of the ICC."

The department further stated, "The ICC has no jurisdiction over U.S. citizens anywhere in the world," and declared, "The United States will not cooperate with any ICC investigations, inquiries, summons, or proceedings."

* Hakeem Jeffries Opposes Bid to Cut Israel Aid After Record AIPAC Earmark

In a “dear colleague” letter on Tuesday, Hakeem Jeffries wrote that he will be voting against a measure introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie that would cut .3 billion in Foreign Military Financing to Israel.

WHOA! Nancy Pelosi says she will vote for Massie's amendment to withhold arms from Israel despite calling it "ill-conceived!"

"The American people are rightly demanding an end to a perpetual cycle of war, and the Netanyahu government cannot maintain its current course. "

* Mike Johnson: Pentagon Needs $350 Million To Help “Fight Communism On Our Very Own Shores” [VIDEO]

“You heard the president talk about how he wants to effectively double the funding for national defense. Look, we live in dangerous times. We’re fighting communism on our very own shores, and we’re fighting evil terrorists and tyrants around the world, and we have to be able to protect our national security,” Johnson said.

* Tuberculosis outbreak at Colorado ICE jail sickens at least 12 detainees
https://archive.ph/eo6Ap#selection-1289.0-1289.72

At least 12 people detained at a federal immigration jail in Colorado have contracted tuberculosis in recent days, according to testimony from inside the facility where dozens of others have reportedly been placed in quarantine.

Those affected by the outbreak are also being made to endure their isolation without air conditioning, one detainee who has been at the facility in Aurora since December told the Guardian, through his partner, in a telephone call on Monday afternoon.
Neither the Department of Homeland Security, nor the Geo Group, the Florida-based private company that operates the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) processing center under government contract, responded to a request for comment or confirmation.

But the Mexican detainee in his 30s, whose name the Guardian is not publishing for fear of possible retribution by guards, gave a detailed account of developments inside the troubled center over the past few days, which have included the mass testing of everyone within one of the center’s so-called pods.

* 100 House Democrats vote to cut off aid to Israel, showcasing party shift https://thehill.com/homenews/house/5970608-pelosi-clark-massie-israel-amendment/

House Democrats split nearly evenly on a Wednesday amendment to cut off U.S. aid to Israel, showcasing how the contentious issue is reshaping the political dynamics in the party.

The amendment spearheaded by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) was always presumed to be a doomed show vote, but provided a test for Democrats who have been increasingly under pressure from the activist base over Israel.

The amendment failed 104-314-10, with 103 Democrats voted in favor, 98 Democrats voting against, and 10 voting present. Massie was the only Republican who supported the amendment.

Democratic leaders were split on the vote, too, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffires (D-N.Y.) and House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-Calif.) opposing the amendment and House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) voting for it. Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) also voted for the amendment.

* 82.8% of Michigan Democratic voters support changing the American health care system to a single-payer system
https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2026/07/15/michigan-democratic-voters-want-to-see-change-in-the-american-health-care-system-poll-finds/
Michigan Democratic voters were asked in a recent poll about the 2026 U.S. Senate primary and their views on various topics.
A poll conducted by WDIV/Detroit News asked Democratic voters from across the state about their opinions on various topics in the 2026 primary election. A portion of these questions focused on their views on the American health care system.

I really hope we can get the Dem candidates for POTUS to talk about how we need to join the ICC and become members of it.
Let's be honest, we've heard more about the ICC since Trump took office on his second tenure as President than we've ever heard in our entire life. It's the "Streisand Effect" and a great example of it.

The only reason we are hearing about it is because I believe the ICC will indict Trump and his bootlickers of an administration as war criminals. So they're doing their best to be out in front of things with wanting to end it entirely. You can't be charged by an entity which no longer exists.

Thankfully, luckily, the EU wouldn't allow that to happen.
