Blanch would be as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rockers.

(55,669 posts)Harris was the first Democratic US Senator to go on national telly and call for Franken to resign:
Manchin was the only Dem Senator to say he should not resign. The 3 Dems on the Senate Ethics Committee could not comment, and the now imprisoned Menendez (then under federal indictment) refused to comment. Every other Democratic Senator and the 2 indies (King and Sanders) said (either in public or in private) Franken had to go, especially after other Democrats, including a Democratic staffer, came forward with allegations againt him.

(2,540 posts)No argument on the historical timeline. The mandate from leadership across the board was real and swift, which is exactly why this topic still triggers so much debate.
At the peak of the "me too" cultural moment, leadership felt pressured to make a swift, definitive statement. However, a lot of folks then (and even more now) wished the formal Ethics Committee process had been allowed to run its course. The bandwagon effect was unfair to him.
There can be no doubt that Franken stepped aside to protect the party from a media circus, not as an admission of guilt. He selflessly chose to absorb the blow rather than drag the party into a divisive spectacle.
I think that reasonable people can agree that losing his sharp, effective presence on the Judiciary Committee was a heavy price to pay, and he deserved better. Also, acknowledging that past political reality doesn't change the fact that his unique talent for questioning witnesses is still sorely missed on that committee today.

(8,565 posts)that Franken did the right thing by resigning and that after over 8 years, with no guarantee he would have been re-elected, everyone needs to let it go.

(55,669 posts)Sens. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) have been appointed to the Senate Judiciary Committee after Al Franken's resignation created a vacancy on the panel. They are the second and third African Americans to serve on the committee in its 201 years.
Why it matters: The committee oversees the Department of Justice and all of the agencies under its jurisdiction, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security. The senators, both attorneys, will likely be leading Democratic voices in the panel's Russia investigation.

(374 posts)I thought she was perfect as a senator. I used to Tune in to watch her interrogate.
I didn't have a choice one way or the other for VP they were throwing out names all over the place and I didn't think it had to be a black woman in particular.

(17,814 posts)...but why even go there?
We have enough competent Democrats confronting Blanche.
The only thing that will 'make him nervous' is the prospect that he'll lose the upcoming vote to make him AG; as well as the surety that Democrats will be waiting for his ass at the end of this orange monkey's term.
The real pining should be over the opportunity Democrats squandered by grousing over ANY Democrat opposing republicans in elections and sitting on their asses when it came time to vote for Vice-President Kamala Harris for president.
Vice President. Remember that?

(39,590 posts)The question is whether any Repuke Senators will say no to a terrible choice.
Senate Judiciary Committee Repukes:
Chuck Grassley (IA) - Chairman
Ashley Moody (FL)
Eric Schmitt (MO)
Mike Lee (UT)
Josh Hawley (MO)
John Kennedy (LA)
Marsha Blackburn (TN)
John Cornyn (TX)
Katie Britt (AL)
Thom Tillis (NC)
Ted Cruz (TX)
Lindsey Graham (SC)
See any that will say no? Tillis?
Graham isn't going to say anything.

(2,299 posts)I think thats where her strengths were, using skills she gained as a prosecutor. The VP really didnt utilize those strengths, and while she did a decent job with presidential run given the time she had, there were critical missteps. And her first run was an absolute disaster.
A good reminder how sometimes a perceived promotion really isnt. She also likely would have had no problem keeping that seat for as long as she wanted it.
