No one should be fooled by what they are doing. They want to divide the Democrats so some won't come out and vote in the midterms, or vote third party.
Make no mistake Massie is doing this obviously because he is opposed to ANY foreign aid to any country. Just look at his voting record, and also using it as revenge against trump. Even without Israel involved, Massie is an antisemite:

It is bullshit. The only purpose for this is for the rethugs to take control of the House in the midterms because THEY KNOW THEY ARE VULNERABLE.
Not only is it a badly written bill, but the rethugs know it will pass the House because they have the majority, and they are playing the Democrats against each other, hoping to suppress the turnout for Democrats in the midterms.
The only way the rethugs can be stopped is to vote DEMOCRATIC in the midterms. We need to win at least one House.
It was the same game that was played in 2024, and anyone who thinks that not voting for Harris was a good thing for the Israeli/Palestinian issue is only deluding themselves.
We are in the minority right now because of that foolishness. Let's make sure we aren't fooling by the rethugs devious game.

Why is that?

AMENDMENT TO H.R. 8595, AS REPORTED
OFFERED BY MR. MASSIE OF KENTUCKY
At the end of the bill (before the short title), insert the following:
SEC. __. No funds for Israel.
(a) None of the funds made available under this Act shall be obligated or
expended for Israel.
(b) The amount otherwise made available by this Act for Foreign Military
Financing Program is hereby reduced by $3,300,000,000.
HR 8595 is far more expansive than military aid.
It is a win/win for Massie, if it fails it will divide Democrats, if it passes it reduces US foreign aid and divide Democrats

(10,283 posts)If it passed then who exactly wouldn't come out? Would that be the people that support aid to Israel, the ones that even now blame the anti Israel voters for the loss in the last presidential election? What about vote blue no matter who?
What does this bill have to do with voting Democratic in the midterms? Are you saying that some Democrats wont vote for Democrats if the bill passes? Which ones? Do you think that it would be right for them to do so?
Once again, who would it keep from turning out?
As wrong as I thought Harris and the Democratic party was on Gaza I voted blue. I have to say this post is interesting. Interesting indeed.

(4,805 posts)Describing the lone-voice of defeated Trump-hater and Maga-pariah Massie as "Republicans", for starters.
Believing that the GQP would EVER vote to cut funding to Israel. Lol.
Labelling Massie an anti-semite is interesting too. I have no clue if he is or not, have seen no evidence, and of course his criticism of Israel is not a sign of anti-semitism.
But most interesting is the apparent assumption that Democrats would not support a bill cutting funding to Israel AND that that is a popular position among Democratic voters. It's the only explanation for your statement that the bill would "suppress Democratic turnout".
Which in itself is interesting because 80-90% of the Democratic BASE SUPPORTS cutting funding to Israel. If leadership and Democratic representatives are out of step with the voters - as they were in 2024 on this issue - disaster is sure to follow. ONCE AGAIN.
But do carry on.

These are American elections and we have Americans suffering everyday under this administration -- some even being killed.
I don't know what the answer to the Israel/Gaza situation is, but it sure as hell doesn't involve Republicans getting elected.
