Country music singer and businessman John Rich has been named special envoy for American landowners at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he will advocate for farmers, ranchers and private landowners on issues involving private property rights and rural communities.

According to a USDA press release, Rich will meet with landowners across the country and work with department leadership and stakeholders on concerns related to federal policies, private property rights and other challenges that affect agricultural landowners.

The department said a priority for Rich will be working with landowners on issues related to large-scale solar and wind energy development on farmland and ranchland. USDA said he will advocate for landowners’ perspectives in discussions affecting their property and communities.

Rich is a strong supporter of the Republican Party.

In the 2008 U.S. presidential race, Rich originally supported Fred Thompson.[8][9] He performed in the closing ceremony of the Republican National Convention on September 3, 2008. He endorsed Donald Trump for president in 2016, 2020 and 2024.

On April 7, 2015, Rich's song "Shuttin' Detroit Down" was featured in Senator Rand Paul's 2016 presidential campaign announcement.[10] He later declared his support for presumptive nominee Donald Trump following Paul's exit from the race.[11] Big & Rich would later perform at a pre-inaugural ceremony on January 19, 2017, after Trump's victory in the general election.[12] On May 30, 2019, he released "Shut Up About Politics" featuring presenters of the Fox News Channel program The Five.

In July 2022, Rich released the politically charged "Progress",[13] a song harshly condemning various "progressive" political ideologies. "Progress" reached No. 1, and stayed there for two consecutive weeks on the all-genre iTunes download chart. The following year, he released the similarly political song "I'm Offended".[14]

fuel industry - doesn't seem to be a hard choice. Although 84% of Texans live in urban areas, rural Texans (16%) control Texas politics. Shitkickers rule Texas...That is just wrong.

I'm tired of the stinking air, filthy water, I feel like I'm living in Dumbfuckistan.
