Fresh off victories over the Democratic establishment in safely Democratic seats in New York and Colorado, the Democratic Socialists of America have set their sights on a more problematic target: a Democratic congressman representing a district President Donald Trump won by 9 percentage points.
The DSA has endorsed Oliver Larkin in a primary challenge against Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) to represent Floridas 25th District, a previously Democratic-leaning seat which state Republicans redrew earlier this year to favor the GOP. The organization suggested this week Moskowitz would be their next big takedown.......
While establishment Democrats have not exactly been overjoyed with successful campaigns by DSA-backed candidates to oust incumbent Democrats, theyve also downplayed how much it matters in November since the bright-blue seats theyve won have no chance of going Republican and harming Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries chances of being House speaker next year.
The 25th District is a much different story. A socialist candidate who has built much of his campaign around opposition to U.S. aid to Israel would have little chance of winning the South Florida-based seat, which is full of older Jewish voters with an emotional connection to the country. A Larkin victory could simply hand the seat to the GOP.

(5,832 posts)i think we can remain allies with israel without condoning the slaughter in gaza or the settlements or the invasion of lebanon or "integrating armed forces" as called for in the defense approp. bill.
we managed to win wwii without "integrating armed forces" with the ussr.

note: when i was a kid "integrating the armed forces" meant something totally different and good. i wonder if that influenced their word choice?

(88,548 posts)There is a zero percent chance of change if Republicans keep the House. But there is a much greater chance if Dems hold a majority in Congress if we dont take down incumbents in districts like this. Ill even stop complaining about people like Chevalier.

(21,380 posts)but Goldman, who was a constant thorn in Trump's side, a commanding, articulate critic of the administration, and a masterful legal strategist, won't be there to lead questioning during hearings if we get the gavel.
DSA types fought hard against Goldman in the primary the first time he ran, and they were even called out for anti-Semitism. Goldman's support for strong US-Israel relations coupled with his anti-BDS position were problems for them back in 2022, long before the Hamas terrorist attack.
Dan's opponent at the time (Yuh-Line Niou) was criticized for her BDS stance and for allowing a comic accused of anti-Semitism to be hired as a performer for a fund raiser.
She was further criticized for posting a jokey picture of herself eating challah at a seder as evidence that she was not anti-Semitic.

The resolution mandates that DSA members and endorsed elected officials may face expulsion if they:
● Oppose the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
● Are affiliated with lobbying groups they deem to be Zionist (specifically mentioning. AIPAC, J Street, and the Democratic Majority for Israel).
● Express support for Israels right to defend itself.

At this summer's convention, DSA is voting on "abolish police" and "abolish prisons" resolutions.

In a two party system, where do I expect them to go? I expect them to do the hard work and start their own party or glom on to the Green Party. We have a robust Working Family Party here in NYS. Run DSA candidates on their ballot line instead of appropriating ours.
