ME-SEN: Some former Platner volunteers are rallying behind Nirav Shah

When Erin Evans of Portland learned of the sexual assault allegations against Graham Platner on Monday evening, she said the news felt like a gut punch to her and fellow volunteers. Evans, a small business owner who served as the Rosemont neighborhood captain for Platner’s campaign said “it was like when your parents tell you they’re getting divorced.

“You’re like what do I do with my life now?”

Soon after, Evans started noticing in her group chats with other volunteers that they were ready to rally behind replacement candidates. By the time Platner announced Wednesday evening that he would end his bid for the U.S. Senate, Evans knew who she would be supporting — former Maine CDC Director Nirav Shah, whom she had voted for in the gubernatorial primary in June.

“The Graham campaign is not going away or dissolving, and everybody is activating,” she said. “We are here to say goodbye to Susan Collins. End of story.”
