DoE Deletes Webpage Instructing People To Lower Thermostat to 78

https://www.newsweek.com/doe-deletes-webpage-instructing-people-to-lower-thermostat-to-78-12153833

A U.S. Department of Energy webpage advising Americans to keep indoor temperatures between 75 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit during summer days appears to have been removed, days after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged residents to adopt a similar thermostat setting to help reduce strain on the city's power grid.
Archived versions of the Department of Energy's "Home Cooling Systems" page show the agency recommending that homeowners "start with an indoor temperature between 75-78°F during the day" as part of broader energy-saving advice. Captures of the page indicate that it remained accessible through at least late June and early July. At the time of writing, the webpage returns a "Page not found" message.

For years. I’m in South Florida and my a/c is on 10 months a year! Approximately..but we’ve been taking that advice and it’s working out fine.

I was on that site earlier today to see if they gave a crap about energy consumption during a NATIONAL HEAT CRISIS and I was shocked, SHOCKED to see that they had a visible recommendation to set air conditioners at 78 degrees. At no point did I think to myself to take a screenshot. And now I'm kicking myself because I just checked the site again and that information is in fact gone.
ATS - Always take screenshots.

Sometimes I’ll say to my partner “can you turn up the air?” And he’ll say “don't you mean turn down?”

I think it’s a car thing. When you get in the car you “crank up the a/c” - but Newsweek and The DOE have no excuse.

Right now my indoor temperature is 85 degrees and I feel PERFECTLY fine with a big box fan on lowest speed across the room.

When I do run the A/C, it's to get rid of some of the humidity. Usually for a half hour, which also brings the temperature down like 3 degrees.

I've sprayed my T-shirt with water on occasion in the past.

I also, if I'm worried about indoor temperatures later in the day, I open the patio door very early in the morning and blow in air from outside with a big box fan.

I drink plenty of cold water.
