I believe some kind of criminal investigation is being done into the politicians, wealthy private individuals and companies involved, something about illegally changing laws and possible bribes and kickbacks being involved.

Mostly on islands: New Zealand, Hawaii, Albania. Easy for their paramilitaries to control.

Two things attractive: isolation from hordes of refugees, and hoping that ocean will temper extremes.

So when you ask, "How much is left in teh treasury?", another way to ask that question is, how much longer will other nations keep buying our T-bills. Foreign nations own about $8 trillion of our debt outright. But there are trillions more in the hands of oligarchs all over the world, and they often conspire as a group -- see Davos.
