No, 50 ppm will not kill the water fowl--as it is routinely used to disinfect for poultry, but neither will it be anything but a temporary solution to the algae problem. Not to mention there is no damned way a few gallons-- of whatever concentration they are pouring in-- is going to do anything.

That and copper sulfate are used as shock treatments.
Slow chlorine releasing compounds like dialkyl benzylkonium chlorides are used as long term control.
Regularly used in things like cooling towers, swimming pools, & settling ponds.
It's actually better than peroxide & chlorine because it stay at an efficacious concentration for much longer.
We do agree that a few gallons, even if something like Tysul 50 is used, isn't enough for that volume of water.

As we have seen for 10 years, they are incapable of planning & if someone else has a plan, they are incapable of following it.

They just need to spend a grand or two on a pump to generate enough ozone to kill the algae and bacteria, while remaining safe to drink. Just one ozone pump will clear a small lake in a few days. But this administration are the fuckups who can't shoot straight.

Besides, the reflecting pool contains 6.75 million gallons of water. A few bottles of hydrogen peroxide will have zero effect on the algae.

For the Parks Service said, that the algae grows in the dark underground pipes, then that shock treatment is not going to work.

Who is the bonehead who came up with the idea to use H202? I recently used it to help get rid of fungus gnats in my houseplants. The ratio for effective usage is 1 part H202 to 4 parts water. Do the math for the proper dilution in over 6 million gallons of water. To those who are worried about waterfowl, H202 in water breaks down very quickly, giving off lots of oxygen in the process. It is not harmful to animals and has no odor. The underlying problem here, which no one seems to have stated, is that the water source for the pool is the Potomac River. Years ago, they stopped using DC treated water due to the drought. Potomac water will always contain algae.

If this thing doesn't have filtration, constant skimming, regular super shock treatments AND a daily sweeping of the bottom and sides you lose! They have a mosquito breeding pool.

If done in the right amounts it inhibits algae growth but wont harm fish and birds. I was thinking copper sulfate but it tends to stain, so the chelated copper is better.

Of course this would require testing and maintenance, but the people with the knowledge and intellegence were fired by musk so we get muck.
