(6,030 posts)This meme is from 2024. The math is correct. The immortal in the meme would have amassed about $190 billion by 2024. Elon Musk's net worth was in the neighborhood of $210-$270 billion, giving a $20-$80 billion shortfall for the immortal.
Let's fast-forward to the present day, giving the hypothetical immortal two more years of hoarding money, which increases the immortal's stash by another $7.3 million. Meanwhile, Mr. Musk's current net worth is estimated to be about $1.1 TRILLION. That increases the gap between the immortal's net worth and Mr. Musk's to about $910 billion.
In 2024, the immortal was short by tens of billions. In 2026, Elon Musk has nearly 6 times more money than the immortal, who has been stacking $$10,000 cash every single day since the Ice Age. Does that help put the scale of modern extreme wealth in perspective?

Earnings at Minimum Wage
To determine how many years an American would need to work to earn a trillion dollars at the federal minimum wage, we can break down the calculations as follows:
Federal Minimum Wage
Hourly Rate: $7.25
Weekly Hours: 40
Weeks per Year: 52
Annual Earnings Calculation
Weekly Earnings:
$7.25/hour × 40 hours/week = $290
Annual Earnings:
$290/week × 52 weeks/year = $15,080
Total Years to Earn a Trillion Dollars
To find out how many years it would take to earn a trillion dollars:
Total Earnings Needed: $1,000,000,000,000
Years Required:
$1,000,000,000,000 ÷ $15,080/year ≈ 66,312,997 years
Conclusion
An American would need to work over 66,3 million years at the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour to earn a trillion dollars, assuming full-time work at 40 hours per week for 52 weeks a year.

(4,915 posts)The majority of Americans believe in fair taxation, but enough Americans are still convinced that the more white, more male party is "better at handling economics" than the party that's actually better at handling economics. It's the same reason for every stupid war of this century and why keeping poison out of our air/water is damn near impossible. And so on.
The majority of Americans want Democratic priorities, but many still vote for white men motivated by the preservation of white male privilege. The real problem is how do you out-message bias?

(8,298 posts)Let's see Musk or any Billionaire do a fire sale of everything and see if he raises as much as he is valued at.
If you could find buyers, which is doubtful.
Tesla is valued at $1.526 Trillion USD.
Any buyers?

(1,195 posts)By the way, he doesn't really have a trillion dollars. He is technically worth a trillion dollars, but Tesla and SpaceX aren't really worth as much as their stock price. Those stock prices are high because some people are really foolish with their money. But anyway, I don't care how much money he has in terms of worth.
I don't trust him. And if I can't trust you, you aren't worth anything to me. There are guys I work with who are completely trustworthy; when they say they will do something, I can consider it done and forget about it. There are other guys I kind of have to watch. They can say they've got it but I have to keep an eye on them to be sure.
Trust is everything. Trust is earned, never given. And trust doesn't accompany money any more than trust stays away from money. It's independent.
To me, Elon Musk is worthless.
