Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is leading in new polling on a hypothetical Democratic presidential primary as the party seeks a new path after 2024 losses.
An Emerson College Polling survey released Thursday found Buttigieg at the top of the pack with 18 percent support, followed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) at 16 percent.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) notched 11 percent support, while Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) and former Vice President Kamala Harris the partys 2024 nominee earned 10 percent each.
Another 9 percent of survey respondents backed Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D), and 18 percent were undecided.
The new numbers mark a slight uptick in recent months for Buttigieg, Ocasio-Cortez and Beshear while support for Newsom and Harris has ticked down slightly.
Buttigieg hinted at a possible 2028 presidential run in remarks at the National Action Network conference last month.
When you ran for president, you met me and we went up to a well-publicized lunch at Sylvias Restaurant in Harlem. Just so my calendar is clear. Should I be reserving a table at Sylvias? Are you going to run again? Rev. Al Sharpton asked Buttigieg at the conference.
You save me a seat, Ill be there, Buttigieg said, without elaborating.

(8,200 posts)This country is not ready for a married gay president. I wish it was, but we are not there yet.
"The President and his husband retired to the first family's residence in the White House." If Americans elected a treasonous wannabe dictator over a biracial women, they certainly will not elect a gay make president.

Only a straight white male will be acceptable. Females, more than half the population will not cut it! Minorities,no not today. What we are left with is a white male, from the burbs with a white wife who is mute. It makes me ill to read comments like this out here! We pay the bills but are nothing but invisible!

There is no chance in hell he wins the general election in this country. We won't even elect a woman.

(2,093 posts)by the many responses in this thread, I hope we are wholeheartedly dismissing Kamala as a potential candidate as well. Because the last time someone mentioned the idea of her running again, that thread was full of a lot more maybe-ing and excuse making for why she should.
If you believe the country is too bigoted to elect a gay man, then newsflash: those same voters are NEVER going to elect a black woman and we need a new candidate for 2028 who isn't Harris.

(68,526 posts)And he's young and nice looking. If we can't have a woman or a gay man we can offer a nice guy who is liberal and white (and he didn't go to Yale or any other Ivy school). He's getting some attention on the political shows. Give him some consideration!
