Lawyer says tourist accused of hurling rock at Hawaiian monk seal has been doxed and threatened

HONOLULU — The defense attorney for a tourist from Washington state accused of hurling a coconut-sized rock at an endangered Hawaiian monk seal says his client was trying to protect sea turtles and has since been physically assaulted, threatened and doxed.

Igor Lytvynchuk, 38, of Covington, Washington, is scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Honolulu Wednesday on charges of harassing and attempting to harass a protected animal.

Earlier this month, a witness recorded what prosecutors say was a video of him throwing the rock at a Hawaiian monk seal at a Maui beach. He later made arrangements to surrender in the Seattle area as special agents with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration were seeking to arrest him, prosecutors said.

The video drew widespread condemnation and demands for prosecution in Hawaii, including from Maui’s mayor. Scientists identified the seal as an adult male known as “R404,” NOAA said.

He's probably lucky that's all that's happened to him. He already said that he was rich and he could just get fined and it wouldn't bother him.

Glad he's bothered.

Fuck him.

But he really put the topper on it with "Go ahead and fine me. I'm rich".

Shit.

Someone should hand Dante and Vergil a pick and shovel and tell them to start digging a tenth circle for this asshole.

Shortly after the incident, someone beat the brakes off him in broad daylight and it was captured on video. The guy swung on him a few times, got him pretty good in the face at least twice.

Astonishingly, despite the incident being captured on video, no one was able to identify the attacker and his identity remains a mystery. I saw a video a few days ago stating that the mayor of the town where the incident took place has christened this anonymous person their "Ambassador of Aloha".

I generally don't care much for vigilante justice but knowing that this dumbshit got slapped around isn't going to keep me up at night.

As for his attorney's assertion that his client was "protecting sea turtles", that's as flimsy as lies get. Seals will occasionally eat sea turtles, like eggs or juveniles, but sea turtles are by no means their normal prey. The prosecution should have no trouble calling a marine biologist to the stand to illustrate just how ridiculous an assertion it is. And even if it were true, who the hell appointed this jackwagon as defender of the sea turtles? Nature does its own thing.

The rock barley missed it's nose and the seal was traumatized and floated on its back. He was examened and is okay now.

I'm very sceptical of him trying to save a seal turtle. He didn't say that to the person filming or anyone else he encountered. It sounds like something made up to justify his actions.

As for the death threats, if that's really happening, isn't okay. He should be punished not killed but that's just me.

When a witness confronted Lytvynchuk, he said “he did not care and was ‘rich’ enough to pay any fines,” according to the complaint.

Now he's lying? What a surprise.. what about the "will pay any fine..?"

Oh, things took a turn? He knew there would be a fine?

Where we have Monk Seals on Kauai, there are plenty of notices that Monk Seals are in the area.

The police reported his name, where he was from& that he owned a business.
He wasn't doxxed. He was reported like lawbreakers are routinely reported.
That's not doxxing. It's a recitation of a police blotter.

So, the idiot throws a big rock at a protected seal, and then wisecracks when someone calls him on it on camera. Video goes viral. He is arrested and charged and in the news.

Now the moron is upset that people know who he is and are letting him know they're displeased.

Dude! Don't throw rocks at cute young seals. Had you not done that, none of this is happening. You did it and smarted off about it, and people got pissed off. Sucks to be you, doesn't it?

Don't do mean things. Don't be arrogant about doing mean things. Don't start what you can't finish. Don't be an entitled little moron.

We parked, got out of the car and headed toward a stretch of beach. Several people pointed to an animal on the beach and warned us away. We took some pics, wandered further down the beach, had our lunch and left. When we told others about the event we were told what a rare animal we had seen. All the people in the area (there were not many) were extremely respectful.

So he could get plastic surgery if somehow fate ended up with a heavy rock thrown at his face getting a messy hit and damaging his pasty skin.
