I was tempted to say that I am "going into the Midterms with realistic expectations," but let's be honest. What the hell is "realistic" right now? So let's consider the options.
ADDING 22 "D" SEATS TO THE SENATE to seal Democrats' ability to CONVICT and REMOVE Trump after an impeachment (2/3 of Congress needed) is a long shot. Does not mean it couldn't happen. It means premature victory laps in this area are not encouraged.
See, here's the deal. YOU...and I...and the people reading this on DU...DO NOT NEEED TO BE GIVEN "REASONS" to vote.
This doesn't hold true for 100% of all registered voters.
And who knows WHAT THE HELL Trump is going to attempt to pull in the next 5 months. Maybe he'll finally go "one step too far" and the voters who normally need convincing won't need to be convinced.
Just don't consider the Senate...with a margin to convict & remove...a "sure thing." WORK for it, but take nothing for granted.
TRUMP ALREADY KNOWS a Dem majority in the House means IMPEACHMENT #3.
And the PROCESS...the INDIGNITY, no matter how many times he whimpers "WITCH HUNT"...will have him agitated 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
He will become the only U.S. President to have been impeached THREE TIMES, and all of his pissing and moaning and stamping his feet will NOT CHANGE THAT.
What I'm trying to say is that the GIANT GOALS are GREAT. Focus on them, work on them, do the best we can do, right?
But short of Trump actually declaring Martial Law and canceling the midterms, IF WE HAVE THEM, WE WILL BE pumping the brakes on the last two years of Grampy's reign of terror, and there's not one goddamned thing John Roberts can do about it.
"KEEP WATCHING THE SKIES."

(6,324 posts)is an impossibility. There are fewer than 22 seats presently held by Republicans up for grabs.
It's somewhat more than a long shot.

(24,488 posts)...UNLESS Republicans decide that they are ready to rid themselves as Trump, we can save our energy when it comes to imagining any "Convict & Remove" scenarios.
The House impeachment will anger him enough. Problem is, how erratic he'd become. But I'm not gonna lose sleep over that tonight.
