ME-SEN: House Democrat: Platner's tattoo should be 'disqualifying'

Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.) refused to back Democrats’ leading candidate in the Maine Senate race, citing Graham Platner’s controversial tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol.

“I’ve been clear about Graham Platner. I find that tattoo and his commentary about it to be personally disqualifying,” Auchincloss, who is Jewish, told CNN’s Boris Sanchez on Monday.

“I hope Maine voters agree with me,” he continued. “I think it would be a mistake for the Democratic Party to think that Graham Platner’s brand of the Democratic Party is what wins us durable majorities throughout this country.”

The candidate said he covered up the chest tattoo after receiving criticism that it resembled a Totenkopf, a symbol adopted by Adolf Hitler’s troops in Nazi Germany.

He instantly got pushback and hyperbolic accusations of supporting the GOP. He seems a little clueless if he didn't expect that

Susan Collins is a rubber stamp for the worst admin in history. Claims that I would endorse her, implicitly or otherwise, ignore my track record supporting Democrats to take back both chambers. As I said months ago, I find Platner's Nazi tattoo and his commentary about it personally disqualifying. If it were me I'd vote for someone else in the Maine Democratic primary.

Regardless of what happens in Maine, Democrats need to take back the Senate and I'll keep working hard to make it happen.

And I know where from after searching Google.
He's sure had some very controversial opinions in the past. This however leaves me a bit befuddled and perplexed.

Let me get this straight. Rep Auchincloss won't support Graham Platner because he had a SS Totenkopf tattoo. Am I reading this correctly? Yet he was fine with a bunch of white supremacist MAGA supporters flying a Confederate flag in a Black neighbourhood in Massachusetts going on to defend their actions as "Free Speech" and compared it to banning a Pride flag or a Black Lives Matter flag. Wouldn't a tattoo qualify as "Free Speech" too?

Yikes! 😬😬😬

Anyone that spends just five minutes listening to Platner would understand that he's not anything close to a Nazi

to affect a Maine Senate race. But with his background and his own controversies he really should STFU.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Auchincloss]

During the campaign, questions arose about his party affiliation. Auchincloss was originally a Democrat but was a registered Republican from 2013 to 2014 while working for Charlie Baker's gubernatorial campaign. He continued to vote in Republican primaries as an independent until late 2015 before becoming a Democrat again.

Auchincloss faced some controversies throughout the campaign and apologized for his old statements that defended the harassment of Black students with a Confederate flag for protecting Newton's free speech values and compared it to banning a pride flag or Black Lives Matter banner, appeared to justify the burning of the Quran, for making fun of a local community efforts' to rename Columbus Day "Indigenous Peoples' Day" in 2016 and he voted against a symbolic 1 percent decrease in the local police budget. He modeled himself after the moderate Republican Governor Charlie Baker.

And
Auchincloss attracted attention in 2021 for his objections to H.R. 3 (Elijah Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act), House Democrats' prescription drug pricing reform. Alongside Representative Scott Peters, he co-authored a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi warning that international reference pricing "would discourage research and development" and undermine the "innovation ecosystem". Auchincloss later specifically objected to H.R. 3's clause capping prescription prices subject to federal negotiation at 120% of the average price in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom and argued that "price controls … because of the uncertainty they create, are a massive deterrent to risk capital that invests in the next generation of drugs"

There’s lots more about Jake that, if I lived in Mass, I’d welcome a challenger so I think he is an ass for drawing attention to himself.

We'll vote for the guy we want and Platner is him. The more pushback we get, the more we dig in our heels. Old Reddit posts and a skull and crossbones tattoo are the worst they have on this guy? That makes him pure as the driven snow.
