Rep. Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.) refused to back Democrats leading candidate in the Maine Senate race, citing Graham Platners controversial tattoo resembling a Nazi symbol.
Ive been clear about Graham Platner. I find that tattoo and his commentary about it to be personally disqualifying, Auchincloss, who is Jewish, told CNNs Boris Sanchez on Monday.
I hope Maine voters agree with me, he continued. I think it would be a mistake for the Democratic Party to think that Graham Platners brand of the Democratic Party is what wins us durable majorities throughout this country.
The candidate said he covered up the chest tattoo after receiving criticism that it resembled a Totenkopf, a symbol adopted by Adolf Hitlers troops in Nazi Germany.

Susan Collins is a rubber stamp for the worst admin in history. Claims that I would endorse her, implicitly or otherwise, ignore my track record supporting Democrats to take back both chambers. As I said months ago, I find Platner's Nazi tattoo and his commentary about it personally disqualifying. If it were me I'd vote for someone else in the Maine Democratic primary.
Regardless of what happens in Maine, Democrats need to take back the Senate and I'll keep working hard to make it happen.

He's sure had some very controversial opinions in the past. This however leaves me a bit befuddled and perplexed.
Let me get this straight. Rep Auchincloss won't support Graham Platner because he had a SS Totenkopf tattoo. Am I reading this correctly? Yet he was fine with a bunch of white supremacist MAGA supporters flying a Confederate flag in a Black neighbourhood in Massachusetts going on to defend their actions as "Free Speech" and compared it to banning a Pride flag or a Black Lives Matter flag. Wouldn't a tattoo qualify as "Free Speech" too?
Yikes! 😬😬😬

(6,648 posts)to affect a Maine Senate race. But with his background and his own controversies he really should STFU.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Auchincloss]
Auchincloss faced some controversies throughout the campaign and apologized for his old statements that defended the harassment of Black students with a Confederate flag for protecting Newton's free speech values and compared it to banning a pride flag or Black Lives Matter banner, appeared to justify the burning of the Quran, for making fun of a local community efforts' to rename Columbus Day "Indigenous Peoples' Day" in 2016 and he voted against a symbolic 1 percent decrease in the local police budget. He modeled himself after the moderate Republican Governor Charlie Baker.
And
Theres lots more about Jake that, if I lived in Mass, Id welcome a challenger so I think he is an ass for drawing attention to himself.

(12,584 posts)We'll vote for the guy we want and Platner is him. The more pushback we get, the more we dig in our heels. Old Reddit posts and a skull and crossbones tattoo are the worst they have on this guy? That makes him pure as the driven snow.
