A lady was interviewed outside of a polling place in Texas: "I listen to Trump. I like Trump. I like Trump a lot."
After every fucking thing this man has done and is about to do in his remaining 2 1/2 year reign of terror.
For about 1/3 of the country there is no hope.

(1,145 posts)Very informal chat about what plans for the fall were. I simply asked are you going to vote? Are you registered to vote?
Brief instructions on how to register here in Ohio with the gentle admonition to do it now before proposed changes are in place.
And then we went onto another subject and more good food

(3,062 posts)Boebert won in 2022 by 546 votes. 546 votes, the difference between winning and losing.
There were 565,000 registered voters, yet only 335,000 votes were cast. All Adam Frisch needed to win was a mere 600 votes from the more than 230,000 voters who couldn't waste their precious time to cast a ballot.

They all watch FOX, or worse, all day every day
They dont discuss the depth of any issue, they parrot the talking points they are fed hour by hour
It makes me angry, and sad.

Can we find no way to do this?
Really??

(22,806 posts)If that woman is run over by a bus, I won't care. No matter what terrible thing befalls her, I'll simply smile and go about my business. My empathy is over for those people. They can die in the gutter for all I care at this point. They're no longer worthy of my sympathy.

(69,698 posts)Decades ago they learned that a lot of people disapprove of their vile racism, so they took it inside. They still say gross things to one another but in public it all gets covered up with euphemisms, excuses, and defiant stares.
We know why they like Trump. They know we know.

(13,361 posts)We need to make them own their vile beliefs and not let them off easy.

(69,698 posts)Trump is the direct result of decades of frustration among the millions of Americans whose beliefs became unacceptable.
The racists are angry that they aren't allowed to say the vile things they believe. They blame everyone who stopped them: the "woke" liberals, the Democrats who passed the Civil Rights Acts, the schoolteachers who dare to teach historic facts instead of white supremacist fantasy, the "liberal media" and Hollywood that dares to portray Black people as human.
As rural communities faded and people struggled, they blamed the Democrats. As small cities turned to rust belt poverty, they blamed Democrats. In their minds this is all the Democrats' fault.
They will continue to vote for horrible Republicans who steal their money. Fox News, hate radio, X, podcasts - the billionaires figured out that hundreds of millions of Americans are angry, desperate, and ready to believe any conman who says what they believe.
Not sure a democracy can survive this.

(69,698 posts)Trump is an old, sick man who can't run for office again. There are dozens of other Republicans waiting in the wings and they're all competing to be the billionaires' next tool.

If people want to give up, go ahead and give up, the rest of us don't need to read about it.
