IMHO Patel is exhibiting classic alcoholic personalty.
Paranoia, delusions of grandeur, no controls on his behavior.
Feel free to add you own observations

(172,833 posts)I actually was able to tell the group what it was like to live with my alcoholic aunt and uncle when I was a teenager (disclosure - they weren't mean drunks, just, well, irresponsible.....they had a couple of toddlers I ended up taking care of a lot)....it shook some of the people in the room, hit close to home.

(133,057 posts)bourbon with an FBI label implies he jonesing. When I was only allowed one drink a night I'd spend most of my day thinking of what I was going to have, when and how. I would seriously talk to an addiction counselor if I was him. I joined AA after a DUI (I didn't hit or hurt anybody) and have not had a drop since. One of the best things I have ever done.

(13,321 posts)Drunk in a car accident. Luckily he didn't hurt or kill anyone else. And patel and the guy of war are both going to die drunk. That is pretty obvious to me from their behavior. Alcoholics aren't just addicted to alcohol, it's their makeup, they are addicted to everything. Both of them are now addicted to power. I sure hope they are being driven everywhere and not driving themselves.

(4,739 posts)She is his chief of staff. She fessed up in an extended Atlantic interview that her smelly boss has an alcoholic's personality. She said she's an expert on "big" personalities. Her father, athlete and announcer Pat Summerall had a significant alcohol problem before he sought help
There was a time when having a drinking problem was enough to derail your nomination for, say, secretary of state. Ahem, John Tower.
We are in strange times.

(16,529 posts)parents raised in a violent household with guns. I had my last drink before midnight New Years Eve 1992. At least my stoopidity wasn't played out on the world stage FFS. The head effer's whole cabinet and appointees all have some substance abuse problem, the worst being whatever speed they might be snorting. Assholes unleashed and running wild. DISGUSTIPATING

(55,362 posts)Both Trump and his father put so much untenable pressure on his eldest brother, the presumptive heir, that Fred Jr. turned to alcohol. And even as a child, DJT saw his opportunity to displace his brother as one day running the family and the family business. No compassion for his brother.
And DJT also witnessed how his brother was essentially helpless at being independent. Little Brother was in charge now.
My theory is Trump doesn't want any Cabinet member to get more attention and credit than he's getting. Simultaneously he's disgusted by their weakness for alcohol and pleased that he can control them. They'd never turn against him.
