NY-GOV: Laborers' union cements support for Hochul's re-election campaign

Gov. Kathy Hochul secured the backing of the New York State Laborers Union on Wednesday evening, adding a major construction-trades endorsement to her re-election campaign.

Members of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, or LIUNA, formally endorsed Hochul during a monthly union meeting at St. Vartan Armenian Apostolic Cathedral in Murray Hill, where the governor appeared before members after the vote.

The endorsement gives Hochul and her running mate, former City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, support from a 40,000-member construction union whose members build and repair roads, bridges, airports, schools, tunnels, subway lines and other major infrastructure across the state.

Hochul used the appearance to tie her campaign to the state’s infrastructure agenda, pointing to projects including the JFK Airport redevelopment, the Gateway Tunnel, the Second Avenue Subway and offshore wind developments — large-scale efforts that rely heavily on union labor.

Stefanik was supposed to be their only hope, and even with her it was a longshot. I didn’t realize she withdrew in December. She must have known Hochul would wipe the floor with her.
