PA-03: Shapiro and AOC's political maneuvering injects drama into Philly congressional race

A Pennsylvania congressional candidate seems to be caught in a proxy war between Gov. Josh Shapiro and progressive New York U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

According to Axios, Shapiro is working against 3rd Congressional District Democratic candidate and state Rep. Chris Raab, a progressive, who has tussled with Shapiro in the past and been endorsed by Ocasio-Cortez.

There is a three-way Democratic primary in the solidly blue Philadelphia district in which the winner would be highly favored to win the general election. Current U.S. Rep. Dwight Evans is not seeking re-election.

Axios described the intra-party drama as pitting two potential 2028 White House contenders — Shapiro and Ocasio-Cortez — against each other as well as highlighting ongoing bickering between the liberal and centrist factions of the Democratic Party.
