Israeli government from Jewish Americans? What the Israeli government is doing is genocide and yet, bupkis from most American Jews or for that matter, Jews worldwide. Seems Likud is planning to turn Gaza into a giant resort for the rich and famous and there does not seem to be any intervention from worldwide Jews.

The fact that "Jewish State" exists does not imply a responsibility for Jews with no ties to Israel to comment. Simply being a Jew doesn't convey that responsibility.

They don't have to, of course, but in fact many American Jews do disagree with Israel's policies and actions. That's why they live in the U.S., which, while we're on the subject, has a FAR worse history of bad behavior with far less provocation.

If you aren't hearing and reading the condemnation of Israel's actions coming from many Jewish people, it's because you haven't bothered to look and listen.

And who are you to declare that there's been "bupkis from most American Jews or for that matter, Jews worldwide." You don't have any facts to defend that.

And by the way are you even aware of how few Jews there are worldwide, especially if you look beyond the U.S. and Israel? Damn few.

Look it up and learn something.

The fact that Jews in the diaspora are probably not Israeli, and they may even be against the extent of current Israeli military actions, they still become easy local targets for violence. Extremism in any form has to be checked. The Israeli extremist that was filmed pushing over a nun and then kicking her repeatedly in Jerusalem did no favors to Jews worldwide. Same with the IDF soldiers who knocked down and destroyed a Christ on the Cross monument in Lebanon and got filmed doing it. The flames were already burning against Muslims over their Hamas and other extremist actions and the Jews have always been targeted by some. Now with no positive dialog anywhere, it is all too easy for the flames to be fanned by anyone who simply does not like "other".

After 9/11, most Americans, from the president down, rightly pointed out the difference between the people who engineered the attack and everybody else who happens to be Muslim. The only ones implying that it was understandable that Muslim individuals might be blamed for what a few of them (or as we've now learned, the leadership of Saudi Arabia) did were right wing cretins.

Similarly, Trump and others who identify (loudly) as Christians are doing horrible things, but anybody suggesting that this means that all Christians are at risk for being blamed would be ridiculed.

Yet when the issue is Israel there's a collective shrug about terrorist attacks on Jewish people, at best. At worst we read that they deserve it because reasons.

people, groups, govts etc that are doing horrible things. But I'm sure most would say that doesn't make it ok for random people to attack them.

So I don't even think it matters what their position on Israel is. It still wouldn't be ok for some random individuals to attack them.

1. Netanyahu didn't help things. There are antisemites attacking Jews as proxy against Netanyahu's destruction and death against Palestinians in Gaza and Lebanon.

2. Trump didn't help things by cozying up to Christian Nationalists who only want to get Jews into Israel to entice the Second Coming of Jesus. Otherwise CN's don't find anything beneficial about Jews; after all, they killed "Our Savior".

3. MAGA's distrust of Jews as many of them have better education, better intellect, better social status, and don't mix well with MAGAs.

All three categories have the motivation to go after Jews because Trump doesn't go after them. Besides, you start with Jews and move on to other categories of the population who aren't white, evangelical/fundamentalist Christian, and drink Bud.

I don't remember a lot of assaults on Jews when I was a junior in high school.

I was in 4th grade and a classmate threatened to blow my head off with a shotgun because I was a "Christ Killer". I had no idea what he meant, and given he had a shotgun, I reported it.

I was wondering if there was some event that prompted a rise in Antisemitism that year.

Well, Alan was a knuckledragger. He was as stupid as the day is long. However, anti-Semitism was pretty bad there. I had many encounters with anti-Semitism, including the "benevolent" kind.

I can't find it in myself to justify the blind-hatred this takes with tasteful garnishes in an attempt to make it seem more palatable.
