when I cheer the price of gas higher and hope it hits 10.00 a gallon just so the people of this country will wake up and kick the conman out and lock him up ?
I think the world is hoping for this honestly.

They are already screwing us royally. This is just another excuse to stick it to us even more.

IMO they have been keeping the price of crude, gasoline and diesel lower than it should be.
Crude should be $200/barrel.

and Senate as voters retaliate against Rs.

(42,999 posts)prices always goes up under democratic administration's. Just the other day a republican Senator said gas prices were dropping. His voters will believe him. You see they believe in the Magic R, not facts.

I will send more love not to people who wish Trump success to lower gas prices, but wish Trump replaced to fix a lot more than that including gas prices.

(17,702 posts)I'm cheering for the price of everything to soar so that it hurts if that's what it takes to wake people up. I think it would hurt mostly the MAGAs who are the ones who can't afford to pay the outrageous prices for everything. They worshipped this orange waste of skin and breath, so let them follow him to his demise and theirs.

(10,039 posts)We could probably get a majority in the House without high gas prices but continued economic trouble would help deliver a blow out win that we could use to take out this evil regime once and for all.

(19,115 posts)create a demand for more energy efficient vehicles, increase public transportation infrastructure, and generally improve the environment. Many Democrats supported things like carbon pricing, higher gas taxes, removing fossil fuel subsidies, mandating higher MPG vehicles, and setting targets for lower carbon emissions. The public refused to give up their gas guzzlers, and punished elected officials at the ballot box for their attempts to make America less dependent on oil.
I drove 600 miles from Maryland to Vermont yesterday.... listening on the car radio about people complaining about the price of gas.... as I set my cruise to 55-60 and everyone is passing me, going about 80mph... people like to bitch, but do not want to change their behavior

(15,825 posts)The problem of course is that high gas prices hurt millions of people who can least afford it, and is inflationary because it affects all goods transported by petroleum-based fuels.
We need to tackle affordability on multiple other fronts, including health care and education, while recognizing the additional costs of fossil fuels. Middle East wars have cost us $trillions, and the effects of catastrophic climate change can be devastating.
The USA should be leading the world in transition away from fossil fuels, but the administrations of GW Bush and Donald Trump have been unmitigated disasters.
When are American voters going to wise up? I'm not holding my breath. Even if Democrats win the midterms, the biggest factor will be the price of gas.

(1,053 posts)After claiming Obama wasn't American, saying McCain wasn't a war hero, saying on tape he grabbed women by the p-word, actively courting Russia to interfere in our elections, breaking so many of our long-established norms, calling soldiers suckers and losers, being impeached--twice, being convicted of fraudulent business practices and paying off a porn star, being convicted of sexual abuse, inciting a riot at our very own Capitol, etc., etc., etc., and still being reelected in 2024, it is abundantly clear that the ONLY thing the average American voter cares about is their personal economy.
Unfortunately, the ONLY thing that is breaking through to the electorate is the damage that tariffs and this "little excursion" in Iran is doing to their economic security.
If economic pain is the one and only thing that can save us from this MAGAfied fever dream we seem to be living through then so be it.
We just need to be preparing accordingly for our own economic pain to be able to make it through the hard times.
The entire world will be better off if we can get past this stupid timeline.

(6,969 posts)...they're almost always wrong.
I can remember some in 2016 (such as Susan Sarandon) declaring that a Trump victory would ultimately be good, because it would be so disastrous that it would "hasten the revolution".
And here we are today. That revolution is gonna git itself a-hastening sometime real soon, I'm sure...

(268 posts)A 20 gal fill up, at an $1.50 increase from 2 months ago is $30. For every file up. $90 at $4.50. (rough numbers for an example)
I felt that the above $4/gal (4.39-4.45 here) it would start to really be noticeable and bother the maga crowd. I think that is happening. At $5/gal a 20 gal fil up hits $100. Id we hit that point then I think the maga folks will really start to turn. Not only not show up in November but maybe vote Dem to punish the GOP.
It is really hard to not tie the increasing gas price to TACO. Not that the RW media and deep in the cult folks wont try.

(735 posts)I saw a Republican "analyst" on one of the Sunday shitfest shows claiming gas was over $6 while Biden was in office so tRump is actually bringing down the price just like he said he would. I will not be surprised when about 35% of the population starts repeating that line as fact.

(9,586 posts)I know these prices are hurting good people who can afford it the least. I also know that for some selfish muthafuckers, the only thing they will understand is immense financial pain.
I hope the MAGAts get theoir heads out of their asses. But I think the floor is about 30% incredibly stupid muthafuckers.

(649 posts)One, gas prices stay high and will hurt the Rs in November. But if it stays high afterwards, the Rs willing tun against the Ds not doing anything about it.
Two, Ds win in November and helps lower the price of fuel. End result: back to square one in regards to oil dependency and carbon emissions.
The Ds need to lean heavily towards electrification, especially of vehicles, as well as improving public transit. The vast majority of people driving in cities and between cities can achieve their movement goals by using public transit. Only a small handful are driving because theyre moving heavy things that cant be easily brought on a bus or trolley. And even then, we need to build public transit that can also accommodate carrying objects in addition to people.
Ds need to expound on the fact that the best way to avoid dealing with variable fuel prices is not using that fuel.

Things are bad already.
Medicaid and SNAP benefits are being cut.
People are car pooling to come to the center.
Families are moving in with other family members and friends.
In the last month, I have had at least 1-2 Families with 9 in the household.
Especially in rural areas, with little or no public transit, high gas prices are devastating.
