This footage is shaking the internet. What was supposed to be a routine medical check at Marcy Correctional Facility turned into a tragedy that no one was meant to see.
Here Is The Story:
Robert Brooks, a 43 year old musician, was taken to the prison infirmary for an exam.
Because of medical privacy, the officers believed there were no cameras in the room but they didn't realize their own body cams were still recording.
The footage captured a brutal 10 minute assault while Brooks was handcuffed and compliant.
He tragically passed away the next morning from his injuries.
Since the video went public, over a dozen staff members have been fired, and several officers are now facing murder and manslaughter charges.
A firing squad sounds like proper punishment, dont you think so?

Four prison guards involved in the death of an incarcerated Black man whose brutal beating at an upstate New York prison last year was captured on body-worn camera videos were each sentenced Friday to prison terms.
The four had pleaded guilty in September, just two weeks before the start of the trial for a group of guards accused in the death of Robert Brooks, who was pummeled while handcuffed at the Marcy Correctional Facility on Dec. 9. The beating of the restrained 43-year-old man triggered outrage and calls for reform.
This place is run by a mob: Inside the prison where Robert Brooks was beaten to death

Nicholas Anzalone and Anthony Farina, who both had faced a top charge of murder before pleading guilty to a lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter, each received 22-year terms. Two more men charged with second-degree manslaughter also pleaded guilty. Michael Mashaw was sentenced to three to nine years in prison, while David Walters got two years, four months to seven years.
Brooks had been serving a 12-year sentence for first-degree assault since 2017 and was transferred to Marcy from a nearby lockup on the night he was beaten. The videos show Brooks being struck in the chest with a shoe, lifted by his neck and then dropped. .................

(19,028 posts)They meet the ICE gestapo skill set requirements.
Trump will deputize them at the state prison, hand them a badge and a gun. Eagerly waiting for them to finish their prison sentences.
Yeee - Haaa, more Fascist meatheads for his private army Gestapo storm trooper squad.

(17,673 posts)Poorly educated with no critical thinking skills much less any empathy for another living being. There's a reason that higher education includes philosophy classes, etc.
These goons look like a bunch that I know that "don't need no stinkin' college degrees"... Makes me sick to my stomach. I'll bet every damn one of them supports Trump.
I hope they get everything they deserve in prison, too.

(6,497 posts)any reason for doing so? Did the prisoner lodge a complaint about something, was he considered "non-compliant" and/or were the goons simply vicious thugs?

Variations of this are not uncommon. I remember conversations about such violence with Rubin, when he was in state prison in New Jersey.
When my son applied for a position at a youth facility, one of his references mentioned he was a Golden Gloves champion. I think events suggested that was a factor in hiring him. He went through the training, which included tactics to restrain a teen in worse case scenarios. He had been hopeful that he could help kids as a therapist. However, on his second night, he became aware that staff beat the shit out of the teens that acted out. My son questioned why they hadn't followed policy, and learned how things operated. Thus, he left the job. Two weeks later, the facility was in the news, as staff beat a teen to death.
When I was employed at the clinic, part of my job was to work in the county jail. Mainly groups, some one-on-one. It was not uncommon to see a young inmate with a black eye or swollen face. I remember talking with my uncle, a retired BCI Senior Investigator, about this. He said that the types who are employed as jail or prison guards tended to be less interested in law enforcement than having a legal way to beat people up.
This is just speculation on my part, as someone who takes interest in this subject, but as there are more and more cuts in budgets, we will see a rise in prison riots.

(13,536 posts)... that is the prison industrial complex in the United States.
And the appalling conditions in the immigrant prison system has gone from horrific to torturous.
If our nation is ever to be one we can be proud of, we must join other nations in providing universal health care -- including addiction and high quality mental health care for ALL (Over 70% of people in U.S. jails and prisons have a diagnosed mental illness, a substance use disorder, or both) and we must make substantial investment in ending mass incarceration and ensuring those who are given over to the care of the state, whatever their crimes, are treated humanely.
How our government treats those in its power says EVERYTHING about who we are as a people.
And right now, we count among the worst in the world. And on perhaps the most inhumane thing you can subject a person to, solitary confinement, we are No. 1.

I can't imagine beating another human being to death.
