Does anyone know of a study -- a real study, not some crap put out by AI -- on how and why so many Americans seem to have become so angry over the past "x" years?
I know... I know... the right-wing media has a lot to do with it, and more recently social media has been suspected of it. But I'm curious as to whether someone somewhere has published a study on it.

(11,241 posts)20% is social media and propaganda "news"...
80% is good old fashion racist blowback to the Obama presidency (STILL)...
The GOP will milk that dead horse for another 100 years if the people of this country remain on the glide path to total credulity and utter stupidity.

(26,342 posts)matched mine but it was an old, old article from way back, so more than likely, mine was way out-of-date (the one I read).
I suspect that the anger is being propelled by tRUMP for his foul purposes using false rationales and the media/other interested parties in trying to goose the pumps, jury-rig results.
I suspect that after a while of constantly trying to goose or prime the pumps to get more favorable results, this will result over time less and less favorable results as people catch on and see what these shifty characters are doing, in leading us on w/ these so-called surveys/questionnaire/etc. which are really clever ways in directing like-minded people to serve your hidden purposes.

(37,110 posts)It's not just political anger, either. Widespread distrust of experts, science, the press, and other institutions, too. Media seems to be a source of broad intellectual "contagion," spreading all sorts of misinformation and helping to entrench it. Trust in social institutions is what keeps us united. In it's absence we rely more and more on coercion to maintain sociability.

(1,553 posts)News used to be neutral, or at least more so. Then we it became highly screwed to either side with one going fix and the other msnbc. We are fed one sided views or edited content because the creators of content want us to be guided by those that report it. The fix I believe is even worse, a government influencing or guiding what is correct versus allowing the consumer to absorb all content or whatever context we choose and making decisions.

No study to back this up, just a hunch

(29,179 posts)"The effect [of Trump's rhetoric] was measurable. The National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago, which has conducted an annual survey of the national mood since 1972, found in 2020 that the proportion of people describing themselves as 'very happy' had plummeted to 14 percent -- compared with the survey's previous record low of 29 percent, recorded after the 2008 financial crisis. This was despite 36 percent declaring themselves 'satisfied' with their financial situation, the highest in the study's history.
"For the first time in half a century, there was a 'disconnect between financial satisfaction and overall happiness,' David Sterrett, senior researcher for the study, told me. Driving the unhappiness was the social and political environment. After the 2016 election, well-being measures among Democratic constituencies and independents dropped in Gallup surveys -- and there was no corresponding jump in the sense of well-being among Republicans or among whites. After past elections, constituencies of the winning party typically reported higher levels of happiness. After Trump's election, the overall sense of well-being of Americans worsened -- and stayed worse. Gallup called it the 'obvious Trump effect.'"

(30,217 posts)They never got over losing, their petty wittle fee-fees are still butt-hurt from the loss and everything that happened later: Blacks and women got the vote, school integration, Black music from jazz to rock to hip hop leads American culture, etc. Your OP asks what happened? I don't need a study to understand that these people are pissed because they can't own other people or rape their wives.
