From the transcript:
0:00 Let's do a quick rapid fire to see where you stand on some real issues.
0:2626 Would you support a ban on assault weapons? No.
0:3737 All right. So, those answers, I think a lot of people will be nodding along,
0:4040 apart from probably the assault weapons ban question, which I think, as you know, a lot of progressives will disagree with you on say it's a major issue that helps prevent mass shootings.
0:4848 What would you say to them?
0:5050 I think in a country that's already a wash in guns, we have 20 to 30 million AR-15s in America. We don't actually know how many. Restricting access to
0:5959 people with a violent history or people who are going to commit a violent act.
1:031 That is where we're going to see the most effect. And I support universal background checks and I support red flag laws like the one that Maine passed by
1:111 ballot measure overwhelmingly last November. I think that those combined with expanding mental health services
1:181across the board as part of a much more substantial health care system and using the power of the federal government to elevate people out of poverty. I think
1:271 holistically when we think about gun violence, that's where we're going to get the most reduction.

Just my opinion, no one and I mean no one should be licensed to carry an assault rifle. No one!

(55 posts)8. I'm with Platner
I think we should have licensing thru public comprehensive firearms instruction that goes way beyond just safe handling and target practice, and into educating on use of force laws, de-escalation, and the brain science on violence.

Cha
(319,791 posts)10. I'm not. There's no reason to have military weapons
available, on the streets, for mass murderers.
