Extremely disturbed: Houston Police Department officer relieved of duty after racist rant goes viral on social media
Houston Police Officers Union: In no way does the HPOU or its leadership condone or tolerate racist behavior from any of our officers.
HOUSTON A Houston police officer has been relieved of duty after a video circulating on social media allegedly shows her making offensive, racist remarks, according to the Houston Police Department.
Officer Ashley Gonzalez was sworn in in January 2024 and assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division. She has been relieved of duty pending an investigation, an HPD source confirmed Tuesday morning.
Gonzalez was identified as the speaker in a video of a racist rant that has gone viral on Facebook.
In the video, a woman sitting in her car can be heard using racial slurs and making offensive remarks targeting Black people. She also expresses hostility toward people of color and makes comments referencing slavery, racial discrimination, and stereotypes.

(27,378 posts)She appears to be Hispanic...and most small Texas towns are just as racist against her ethnicity as she is against Blacks!

East/north/pan hadle Texas, not so much.

(14,631 posts)In the video, Gonzalez appears to refer to an incident that occurred while she was off duty. She said she "hated Black people" and if she were to respond to a 911 call and a Black person was at the scene, she would take them to jail. She used the N-word several times and referenced slavery.
In the video, she said she felt good about calling a Black person the N-word to their face.
HPD Officer Ashley Gonzalez had previously been relieved of duty, meaning she was technically still an employee.
In the days following the surfacing of the video, calls grew for HPD to look into Gonzalez's arrest history. Houston City Council Member Alejandra Salinas posted a statement to social media on Thursday saying she wanted HPD to "closely review any prior arrests, reports, and testimony tied to this officer to determine whether a pattern of racial bias impacted past cases and whether any Houstonians rights were violated."
