Applegrove: What about immigration?
And of course we should move toward fewer work hours because thanks to technology we don't need everyone on the planet working a 60 hour work week to produce what we need anymore.

It's simple and obvious that more people would have more babies if they could afford it. But right now they can't.

(1,940 posts)As for immigration, the Millers aren't big on people with too much color and the remaining places that do still have a higher reproduction rates aren't pale enough.

(4,097 posts)The US was one of the few countries not facing the economic ramifications of this because so many people want to immigrate here.
Conservative fail to understand the economic benefits immigrants offer our country, and instead are pushing us toward the crisis every other country is working hard to solve. The only solution as they see it is to force white women to have babies whether they want them or not.

(1,940 posts)Yeah a lot of our economies are built on constant growth, but that has to come to an end. It will require a lot of reorganizing around retirement funding.

(25,049 posts)Lebensborn e.V. IPA : [ˈleɪbənzˌbɔːrn], German : [ˈleːbənsˌbɔʁn] (literally: "Fount of Life"was a secret, SS-initiated, state-registered association in Nazi Germany with the stated goal of increasing the number of children born who met the Nazi standards of "racially pure" and "healthy" Aryans, based on Nazi eugenics (also called "racial hygiene" by some eugenicists). Lebensborn was established by Heinrich Himmler, and provided welfare to its mostly unmarried mothers, encouraged anonymous births by unmarried women at their maternity homes, and mediated adoption of children by likewise "racially pure" and "healthy" parents, particularly SS members and their families. The Cross of Honour of the German Mother was given to the women who bore the most Aryan children.

Any unfathomably cruel policy by the Trump administration will always mirror what the German Nazis tried to do.
Especially if someone with the last name of "Miller" is involved

(383 posts)I have thoughts. And those thoughts have nothing to do with birth rates. More to do with autocratic warmongers and cult-like followers.

(24,970 posts)because it means less of them are getting girls pregnant at an age where their fertility is supposedly at its peak.
GOP is never beating those PDFile allegations.
Also, are they confusing fertility rates with birth rates?

(10,312 posts)I was one of those progressives who WANTED the teen pregnancy rate to go down. I believed (and still believe) that one of the best ways out of poverty is for young girls (as well as their responsible male partners) is to get an education and some capital so they can get married and THEN have a baby. I SEE NO REASOL WHATSOEVER WHY I SHOULD TURN AROUND AND CHANGE MY MIND.
Working ones way out of poverty and social mobility USED TO BE part of the American dream, a dream that still ought to ought to be obtainable for ALL young Americans, regardless of race, gender, or ethnicity. That MAGA Republicans and their more moderate.
allies have abandoned this trope is yet another betrayal af Americans, particularly young Americans starting on the path to adulthood.
If there were still any moderate Republicans, even Reagan-era Republicans who USED to believe that younger Americans should wait until they were adults before baby-making, Id call on them to identify and then organize to forcibly sideline each and every ideologue and influencer pushing this obnoxious concept.
Unfortunately it looks like even those Republicans are fading away into irrelevancy just like the Ripon Republicans did a couple of generations ago. Or they
It spines have turned to jelly, which is the same thing.

(2,375 posts)She was 29 when she married.
I guess she was too busy getting an education and furthering her career to think about having babies.

(1,341 posts)Two academics have argued that the "harmful over-consumption of schooling" is responsible for the plummeting birth rate across the U.S.
Jay P. Greene and Lindsey M. Burke, both Ph.Ds, are concerned that other Americans may be becoming unnecessarily educated. An overview of their argument was published on Monday on the website of the Heritage Foundation, a think tank where Burke is the director of the Center for Education Policy and Greene is a senior research fellow.
The Heritage Foundation is the group behind Project 2025, the conservative manifesto for how the U.S. should be restructured under incoming President Donald Trump.

(29,548 posts)...the birth rate in the 15-18 yr old demographic should be 0%. Personally,, I would also say that for 19, but at least they are a year into legal adulthood then.
