Planned "Arc de Trump" would be over twice as high as Lincoln Memorial

Washington — The Interior Department has submitted renderings of President Trump's proposed triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery, showing that the structure would dwarf the Lincoln Memorial across the Potomac River.

The proposal calls for the arch to be roughly 250 feet tall, more than twice as high as the 99-foot tall Lincoln Memorial. It would be the tallest triumphal arch in the world, like the president said he wanted, roughly 30 feet taller than the Plaza de la República in Mexico City.

The proposed building site sits in a traffic circle on the Virginia side of the Potomac, in between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery, on land that technically falls within the boundaries of the District of Columbia. The plans show inscriptions reading "One Nation Under God" and "Liberty and Justice For All" would be on either side of the arch. Gold-colored statues of Lady Liberty, flanked by two eagles, would top the structure, with four statues of lions around the base.

The designs were prepared by Harrison Design, an architecture firm in Washington.

A monument to Trump's insecurity.

That fact is probably very much part of the spec.

I can hear the conversation in my head.

Designer: Ok we understand you are looking for something in the tacky dictator chic motif. But let’s talk about size. How big should it be

Trump: Bigly! Biggest you’ve ever seen. Whatever that one is in France make it 100’ bigger.

In Cleveland there's a bridge that features eight carvings, each depicting a winged figure holding a different kind of vehicle. These carvings were collectively named the Guardians of Traffic; they are the namesake of Cleveland's Major League Baseball team.

They're going to do the same thing to the arch, but there'll be six Guardians of Freedom, all six will have Trump's face and they'll be holding flags and firearms.

tearing down the Lincoln Memorial to build this monument to himself, then replacing the Washington Monument with an even taller golden statue of himself....of course he needs monuments to himself, he's too awful a person to be remembered for anything unless he shoves it in our faces.
