HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) Senator John Fetterman (D-Pa.) said Wednesday he will oppose his partys effort to curb President Donald Trumps ability to continue the war in Iran.
The lawmaker told Fox News that he will vote against a Democratic war powers resolution, which Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced earlier in the day, next week. The resolution, if approved by legislators, would require Trump to receive congressional approval before continuing the war.
Now Im reading that theyre now have to force another, you know, war powers vote. And I will vote against that now because we have to stand our military to allow them to accomplish, you know, the goals of Epic Fury, Fetterman said, referencing the name of the U.S.s operations against Iran.
Trump helped start the war by assisting in a fatal Israeli airstrike on ruler Ali Khamenei. The president didnt receive approval from Congress, which has the sole ability in the U.S. to declare war. Schumer said during his Wednesday press conference that the Senate will vote on curbing Trumps power next week to reassert congressional authority.

(712 posts)Hes become Im less sure its from brain damage as much as it is calculated word choice to show not just support for the war in Iran, but trust in the administrations tactics. Epic Fury sounds so much sexier than war with Iran or even Iranian Conflict. We all get to be part of denouement of Trumps epic movie narrative, but I real life where the plot is written as we go. The shame is that the media has seen to him being one of the loudest democratic voices nationally. I know breaking with the party is real news, but is that really all he has to offer?

(23,509 posts)he was a big old Democrat. I am sorry but he is too stupid now to be a Democrat.
I remember the cognitive problems my mom had after a stroke. She tried to hide them, (like she could not read anymore but would walk around with a book). And it only got worse because more strokes were to come.

Couldn't say enough about supporting tRump and his war, mocked his fellow Democrats. It was sickening.
And we can't even call him what he is because he still has the Sacred D after his name.

(13,431 posts)Fetterman is actively opposing fundamental Democratic Party moral principles, undermining "red line" positions of the Democratic Senate, and advancing Republican priorities. As far as I'm concerned, that goes way beyond the sort of policy differences that we respectfully hammer out and debate within the Democratic "family." And I could be wrong, but I suspect if an exception to the "Don't bash Democratic public figures" rule were requested in his case, it might be granted.
When those with D after their names do things like join with Republican's to override the veto of a Democratic governor, a line must be drawn -- as Clayton Anderson did in NC. (Denied turncoat Dems access to Votebuilder, a critical organizing tool normally offered free to all Democratic candidates. All lost primaries by something like 40-50 points.)
Further more, "Support Democrats" is NOT an admonition against criticizing a Democratic elected or mounting a primary challenge to a Democratic elected. It is about supporting Democratic nominees. And of course, there are exceptions to that too. (e.g., NE Democratic Party support for Independent Dan Osborn over MAGA plant running as a Democrat -- if Cindy Burbank somehow fails to win the nomination and drop out to stop the asshole.)
And just a refresher:
Do not post support for Republicans or independent/third-party "spoiler" candidates. Do not state that you are not going to vote, or that you will write-in a candidate that is not on the ballot, or that you intend to vote for any candidate other than the official Democratic nominee in any general election where a Democrat is on the ballot.
Do not post anything that smears Democrats generally, or that is intended to dissuade people from supporting the Democratic Party or its candidates. Don't argue there is no difference between Republicans and Democrats.
Why we have this rule: Democratic Underground is an online community for politically liberal people who understand the importance of working together to elect more Democrats and fewer Republicans to all levels of American government, and as such we expect our members to support and vote for Democrats at election time. Rare exceptions are granted at the sole discretion of the DU Administrators. (Current exceptions: Dan Osborn for U.S. Senate, Nebraska)
Don't bash Democratic public figures
Do not post disrespectful nicknames, insults, or highly inflammatory attacks against any Democratic public figures. Do not post anything that could be construed as bashing, trashing, undermining, or depressing turnout for any Democratic general election candidate, and do not compare any Democratic general election candidate unfavorably to their general election opponent(s).
Why we have this rule: Our forum members support and admire a wide variety of Democratic politicians and public figures. Constructive criticism is always welcome, but our members don't expect to see Democrats viciously denigrated on this website. This rule also applies to Independents who align themselves with Democrats (eg: Bernie Sanders)

(114,063 posts)but out of respect to some, the desire to avoid misunderstanding from others, and a desire to avoid the perception that I am attacking an "actual" Dem, I will leave it there.
Sadly, he may well just lose us the chance to take the Senate.

(31,919 posts)A golem is an animated, anthropomorphic being in Jewish folklore created from mud or clay to serve as a protector or servant, often brought to life through mystical kabbalistic formulas. Famously associated with Rabbi Loew of 16th-century Prague, the golem serves to protect Jewish communities from persecution, acting as a tireless agent for its creator, yet it can run amok.
