Colorado Springs mayor hires former election rival as right-hand man

Mayor Yemi Mobolade defeated Wayne Williams in the 2023 race for mayor. Now, Mobolade is hiring Williams as his chief of staff.

"COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade shocked Colorado politics in 2023 with his landslide upset win over former Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams. Now, Mobolade is enlisting Williams’ help to run the city.

Williams, a Republican who has served in elected office for nearly two decades, will serve as chief of staff to Mobolade, Colorado Springs’ first non-Republican mayor in recent history."

“I just need the best talent around me, and I wanted to show a different kind of leadership that puts our residents’ quality of life ahead of any partisan issues,” Mobolade said.

“There is a tradition in our country that I think we need to get back to here of disagreeing and fighting strongly for our beliefs, but then coming together,” Williams said.
