Just so you know that an article just like yours that was written to discredit survivors around May 2021 was used to silence me by my aunt. This was after her brother confessed to SAing me between the ages of 2-3 shortly before his death. A year after his death, CSAM was found of me as an infant taken by him and then I was informed he was a psychopath by the FBI. Last year I was informed by the sheriffs department that he was a psychopathic serial
child predator and likely a serial killer (their words not mine).
That article that was like yours silenced me from coming forward and getting critical help until May 2024 because I truly believed no one would believe me and that I had to handle the surfacing very real and very painful flashbacks alone. I didnt know what resources were
So I just want you to understand how much damage your article and articles like yours do when theyre used as weapons by enablers and/or abuser(s).
Signed, Crystal Infant-childhood CSA/CSAM/RAMCOA adult survivor and daughter of a psychopathic serial child predator who was a high-masking charismatic well-loved VP, Eagle Scout and member of the Elders Quorum of the LDS church.
(For reference your article came across my feed because another survivor voiced very real concerns about the collateral damage to the adult survivor community because of what you wrote).

(2,375 posts)It's a great piece. Brandy Z spent a lot of time and money to chase down a story that briefly went "greatest" here on DU a while back. Opinions were...intense on each end of the spectrum, acclaim to disbelief.
To me, the evidence she presented seems clear seven ways to Sunday, that while this man clearly is in distress, the narrative he laid out simply isn't fact-based, especially the version that it grew into after going viral. By no means does that discount his pain, of course.
I had never heard the term "Blue-Anon," which is what the piece is examining through this man's narratives. It's a useful discussion, and gets at a dynamic that isn't restricted to just trumpers. The excellent podcast "Conspirituality" looks at other manifestations of this. It's not just right wingers who populate(d) QAnon forums.
It's unfortunate that the person who wrote the open letter feels undermined or dismissed. Yet that seems to miss the overall point of the article as a whole, even while it's an understandable reaction given what the letter writer shared.
Thanks for posting the link!

(19,847 posts)It is still pretty prevalent today. Even though Trump has paid off several of the boys early on and put them on NDA, it took forever for anyone to believe it. Many people still do not..
