The California Governor's race has become an unmitigated shit show...

As if the polling is not concerning enough (two Republicans have consistently been leading in the polls - mostly because eight Democrats remain in the race), now it has become clear that one candidate (who shall remain unnamed) appears willing to outspend the rest of the field combined. It's not quite the spectacle of the 2003 California Governor's recall election (when 135 candidates qualified to run for Governor - including former child star Gary Coleman, Arianna Huffington, porn star Mary Carey, and eventual winner Arnold Schwarzenegger). But, it's getting there. And, truth be told, it's starting to cause more than a little unease.

I really hope we don't get to that point. That would be more than a little embarrassing.

That anything a Republican Gov might want to do will need to get passed a Democratic Supermajority in Congress.

Not Swalwell. Just, no. Guy with an AI company and a past and present built for inevitable scandal. Nah, I'm good. I don't care how many people like his tweets.

I used to be a Porter person, but I've cooled on her.

Probably leaning Steyer. If Pritzker can manage Illinois, maybe Steyer will be good. I do have friends working on Steyer's campaign right now, and they swear up and down he'll be amazing.

But, eh. I wish I were enthusiastic about someone, but I'm just eh about California politicians in general. The way party politics have been running in this state just seem to leave everything in a "Politics is about personal ambition - the voters are a secondary concern." And it's shown in a lot of ways in how the state functions. That's why I am incredibly cool on Newsom in '28 and will vote for just about anyone else in the primary.

The PR campaign for a lot of these people is great, but when you look at the actual policies they're managing . . . well. Not what you hope for from a Democratic super-majority state.

But who knows how I will feel in the fall. I kniw I like Eric Swalwell right where he is, and yeah, Katie Porter is just not who we need. Tom Steyer looks like our best choice right now.

A bunch of these people need to start dropping out. It's skewing the polling to make tbe Rs look good, and that's not what we need to be doing. I hope our Dems wise up and catch on to that ASAP.

A June primary means we still have a bit of time.

And with the big three names being relatively close, they each feel like they have good reason to stay in. So, I get it.

I hope by the end of the month we see some of the lower single digits people dropping with endorsements. I haven't been nearly as panicked about this as the headlines keep screaming for the past several months. "Too many Democrats!" feels like someone's campaign feeding the media a freak out to get early drop-outs and endorsements, because it's in their interest.

I'd give it three more weeks, and then let's see some tidying up. I believe the ballots get mailed out around May 4th.

I used to really like Porter until she decided not to run for a third term. She made the excuse that it was hard on her family being a Congresswoman and she faced a pretty tough race in a fairly Republican district. So now she wants to be governor of the most complex state in the US.
Swalwell is getting hit pretty hard with harassment allegations and the old news Chinese spy crap is becoming an issue. He’s fighting the release of the FBI files on that. I don’t think that’s a good idea. It’s not a good look to be demanding the Epstein files be released while insisting files on him remain sealed. He was cleared but just saying that isn’t going to cut it. I’ve always liked him, though, and he did a great job during the Impeachment.
Steyer seems okay. Actually, they’re all okay and any one of them would be better than the Republicans. However, 6 of them need to drop out. It would be beyond ironic if in the year of an epic Blue wave, one of the Bluest states ends up with a Republican governor.
Bianco.is friggin nuts. Hilton has some experience in government, just not ours. Having a show on Fox doesn’t cut it.
I suspect if a Republican wins there will be another circus of a Recall.
What. A. Mess.

Why no one feels inclined to drop out. Undecided is the biggest voting block right now, which is why everyone thinks they have a shot to crack into the top 2 slots for the general.

Mamdani proved that it’s not just about policy and ideas, it’s about attention, capturing attention and what message gets you that attention. No one really seems to be succeeding in that arena for the moment.

The top two who advance from the primary will run in the general. Right now, there are too many democrats running and none of them will drop out, so it's splitting the vote too many ways, and even though there are very few republicans in California, their vote is only split 2 ways and it could easily be a R/R race in November if some of the democrats who have no chance don't do the right thing and drop out.

This is not my race to vote in, but if Steyer gets into the 2028 primaries and runs again, I am going to throw up. I hate billionaires and the way they think they can insert themselves and their wealth into the process and run for the most powerful offices with literally ZERO experience. First he runs for president and now he's running for governor of California. Enough with celebrity candidates and billionaire candidates. I don't want Bezos. I don't want Larry Ellison. And I don't want Steyer. Enough.

I’ve always liked Katie Porter. Any reason people soured on her? Is is that video with her and staff? Her crypto acceptance?
