https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15717471/Eligible-US-men-automatically-registered-military-draft.htmlThe rule change was submitted by The Selective Service System, which maintains a database of Americans who would be eligible for the draft, on March 30.
'This statutory change transfers responsibility for registration from individual men to SSS through integration with federal data sources,' the agency's website said.
It adds that the rule change remains under review by regulatory affairs and is awaiting finalization.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the Pentagon and the White House for comment.
The last time that the US conducted a draft was in the early to mid-1970s for the highly controversial US involvement in the Vietnam War.
Despite no active draft, men between the ages of 18 and 25 had still been required to register with the Selective Service System should one be activated.

He has a college degree so make him an officer.

(18,101 posts)The draft for the Vietnam War was started in '64 and lasted until '75.
I knew I was going to be drafted so, in '64, I went down to the local USMC recruiting office and volunteered, that way I got to choose my MOS and the rest is history.

I would discourage anyone from enlisting in the military while this criminal cabal is in power.

(23,084 posts)during the Vietnam war. His father on that same day took him to the Navy recruitment center. Boot camp was at Camp Pendleton, and he served for 4 years on San Clemente Island.
Father-in-law just graduated from High School in Los Angeles in 1963. Didn't get along with father and a police officer said maybe he should join the arm forces. He joined the Marine Corp and was at Camp Pendleton before going to Camp Lejeune. After boot camp they ship his unit to Vietnam. He was a Marine Corp Radio Man. Saw heavy combat, in 1967 they flew him to SF Airport, the first thing he did after departing the plane, he kissed the ground.
Both right now are shaking their heads in total disgust at the current government.

(17,444 posts)They won't require you to show a birth certificate!
They won't require you to provide proof of citizenship!
Nope! They will just automatically register you for war!
They know who you are! They know when you were born!
But, if you want to VOTE?...PAPERS PLEASE!!!
The adds against this "save our Retrumplican asses" voter suppression bill almost write themselves.
You got it!

(17,444 posts)They are "registering" for the draft automatically.
Ask them to do the same for voting and watch the hem-hawing as they try to explain why they can't do that.
The "save our Retrumplican asses cushy government jobs" bill is 100% about suppressing the vote. The fact that they won't allow automatic registration for voting, but will for this is all the proof you need.

(5,094 posts)(I suppose that will save everyone from being prosecuted for 'failure to register' !!)
President Jimmy Carter reinstated registration for the draft early in 1980,
in response to the Russian invasion of Afghanistan---
but one of his greatest moral failures---- !!!
(and further enflamed my personal romantic and ideological efforts
supporting Ted Kennedy for the 1980 Democratic presidential nomination,
who quickly came out against it!)
LATER in that campaign, GOP candidate Ronald Reagan ALSO
spoke out against re-instating draft registration----
but once elected, his administration actually PROSECUTED some registration resistors,
an apt demonstration of "Republican LIES".....
I was legally required to register for the draft in that first year of the Reagan administration,
as I had just turned 18 years old....
After much reflection, I DID register, but added a sticker to my registration document
which said that I was doing so "under protest"...
Later, I changed addresses several times before I was 26,
but NEVER updated my address with Selective Service,
which was technically a violation of federal law.... but fuck Reagan!

(1,343 posts)Or were supposed to. Of course by doing it this way they obviously have shown they can automatically register everyone to vote at 18 too.
