The death toll from a missile strike on a girls school in southern Iran has risen to almost 150, according to Iranian state media.
Mizan news agency, the official news outlet of Irans judiciary, reported that the number killed in Saturdays strike on a girls elementary school in Minab in southern Iran had risen to 148 killed, with 95 others wounded. The news agency cited Ebrahim Taheri, a prosecutor in Minab.
The school, which was struck on Saturday morning, appears to be the worst mass casualty event of the US-Israeli-led bombing campaign on Iran so far.
Video and photographs from the aftermath of the strike, which have been verified as authentic and geolocated to the site, show hundreds of people gathered around the partially collapsed, smoking building, with rubble strewn across the street and men digging through it for victims. Screams can be heard in the background. In some of the images, schoolbags and textbooks are being pulled from the debris.

There's no excuse. They all knew. After January 6, they could all see what they were supporting. They knew.
I will shun them all to the end of my days.

It saddens me deeply.

(650 posts)Used to hide Hamas. I wonder if Iran, Hamas BFF, was hiding things with civilians as well? In other words, was this deliberate or a miss?
That's just sick thinking

(14,127 posts)Either they deliberately targeted this girls' elementary school because they thought Hamas might be hiding there and it was a calculated strike with the girls considered a necessary loss, or it was a mistake. Either way--it's evil.
These girls had a future before the orange monster globbed on to power. Americans might have thought their future was harsh and under oppression, but right here in America girls are raped, tortured, stolen, and controlled.

Sorry, but before anyone takes the word of the leaders of a extremist right-wing, theocratic, authoritarian regime that routinely kills its citizens for slight infractions of religious "law", the report needs to be verified.

(650 posts)Do we have confirmation on it being a US strike, as opposed to Israel? I have only read generic missile from Iranian state reports.

(17,386 posts)I have expressed the fact that I'm a red-letter Christian many times on DU. I've spent the morning reminding people that MY Jesus loved those little babies, too. Because I've seen some Christians applauding the bombings with great glee.
You don't have to agree or disagree with my belief. That's not my purpose. Each person believes as they feel is best. The grief over these babies certainly is NOT limited to any one faith. But we all need to at least have the empathy for understanding what you describe as far as family reaction to war. Those babies mattered.
I'm just trying to convey that some of us will never applaud war that kills little children - ANY children.
