General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThanx a lot Donny. Iran is hitting back and hitting back hard through out the Mid East.
* Iranian jets bomb US bases in Middle East
Iran says its air force pilots successfully bombed US bases in Gulf countries and the Kurdistan region of Iraq, according to the state news agency IRNA.
The Iranian army says pilots successfully struck the bases in several phases, adding that all "enemy military centres" in the region are within reach of the Air Force's fighter jets.
* Tel Aviv neighbourhood shows reach of Iran's missiles
In a residential neighbourhood in central Tel Aviv you can see the impact of where one Iranian ballistic missile hit.
It left one woman dead, the first reported fatality in Israel of this war.
The apartment block where she was living is blown out. Bulldozers are on the scene to clear up the rubble.
On the drive here, we saw explosions directly overhead as more Israeli interceptors took out Iranian missiles.
Israels air defence system has shot down almost all of Irans missiles. But some can still get through especially when fired in a concentrated barrage.
*. Explosions in Doha as Iran carries out retaliatory strikes in the Gulf
Explosions have also been heard in Dubai and Manama this morning, and the Oman state news agency is reporting a drone attack on its commercial port. Oman has been a key mediator in the US-Iran talks for years and had so far been spared Iranian attacks.
Qatar and some other Arab governments have strongly condemned the strikes and reserved the right to respond.
The Gulf states had made efforts to ease tensions with Iran in recent years, they worked hard to mediate a diplomatic solution to the crisis and have refused to let the US launch attacks from its bases in their countries.
But that wasnt enough to prevent direct military strikes on their territory. And now with the violent death of Irans supreme leader, the future looks uncertain not only for Iran, but for the region.

Congratulations Donny you have now put a target on any American any place in the world just
Imagine if you were a father or brother or a sister of one of the 50 or so school girls killed when
their school was hit by an American or Israeli missile and this still doesnt stop the EPSTEIN investigations.

All those Arab billions and they wouldnt invest in their brethren in Gaza. They had kicked what are now called the Palestinians out of their countries including but not limited to Jordan and sent them to disrupt Israel.
Yes, Jews lobby Congress, and for decades Congress never investigated the goings-on in the Catholic Church, and Roosevelt did not permit ships with Jewish refugees to dock in America, and your present President wants Muslims at the very least tossed out of the country and on and on. So the Jews decided to do what the cigarette companies, the auto industry, the steel industry, the insurance industry, and every other business interest does and contribute money to members of Congress. You dont like it, lobby your Congressman or better yet, contribute money and bribe him or her into voting the way you like.
Oh yeah. Ooops.

(22,003 posts)the enemy of my enemy is my friend. They're not our friends by any means and comparing a terrorist supporting state to Ukraine is more than a little insulting and obscene. Particularly since they've supplied some of the munitions that have killed Ukrainians.
Then again, I'm not so calcified in ideology that I can't see some benefit from all this. This will damage the Trump regime. It's a hell of a gamble with crappy odds. Let's just hope that damage can be contained to our regime alone.

(3,066 posts)you aren't being serious. The Iranians have been being held hostage for decades by their government, and collective intelligence claims they were preparing an offensive (again). We still don't know exactly how many thousands of their own citizen they murdered in the past month. the people running that government are (were) downright evil and tyrannical.
We can agree on our general feelings regarding Trump, but opposing every single action just because, is not a logical nor reasonable way to go about things. This call has been out for at least a decade now, including from many on our side of the isle. Hopefully Trump doesn't screw this up, but it's been a long time coming.

Funny how so many Americans think history started in 1776 and all cultures must conform to American ways of thinking. It didn't and they don't.
I was surprised so many are willing to attack Iran. Id been under the misguided impression that an attack on Iran would bring the entirety of the ME down on anyone who dared. Turns out just Iran and some assorted terrorists jumping up. I was very ignorant.

Iran is majority Shia. Saudi and the southern Gulf states are majority Sunni. Kind of like Catholics and Protestants only they're still shooting at each other. Culturally, Iran is majority Persian. Saudi and the southern Gulf states are Arabs. Their languages are very different. Most Iranians speak Farsi, a Persian language. Persian is Indo-European, and in some ways similar to western languages. Arabic is a Semitic language. A whole different linguistic family that ironically includes Hebrew. They have different cultures stretching back a couple millennia. Then there's the question of who owns the Persian Gulf. Arabian Gulf if you're in Saudi. The religious, cultural and political rivalry between Arabs and Persians (Iranians) stretches back to at least the Muslim conquest of Persia in the 7th century. Perhaps even further back. A long history of bad blood.

Dont count on that. I can think of a bunch of ways Iran could hit back at America itself and its
people both here and abroad. Iran has been funding, training, and supporting terrorist organizations
for years now.
It's my worry with this whole thing.

(17,386 posts)Good grief. Some people just don't see the writing on the wall when it's right in front of them.
Haven't we lived through this scenario before? Do we not remember the public beheadings that ISIS carried out? Do any of us really relish living through that kind of thing again?
Of course, they're going to retaliate and they will do it by whatever means are available to them. Why wouldn't they? So the question that *I* have for those who are saying "but they can't do anything domestically" is whether or not you really feel safe with the likes of Trump, Patel and Noem in charge of our "domestic" safety? I know that I don't feel any degree of comfort.

It's really not hard to see a scenario where dozens of Iranian agents or sympathizers carry out coordinated mass shootings across the US thanks to our lax gun laws.
We're deep into the age of unconventional, asymmetrical warfare now.

(19,141 posts)One story that got buried (besides the EPSTEIN FILES) is how Anthropic got ditched for not giving carte blanche for use of their product to mass surveil Americans OR to autonomously launch attacks. Sam Altman (Open AI) stepped up and said, hey, we'll let you do that!! (Think about that next time using ChatGPT.)
58Sunliner
(6,291 posts)I didn't see anything specific, but I did not research it either. Frankly would not surprise me if they both agreed on it.
That would explain the latest round of "investment" in Open AI. That is scary.
RandomNumbers
(19,141 posts)But I don't believe even TSF or Bibi target schools directly ... except for Bibi in the case of Gaza, he is indifferent to something being a school or a hospital if so-called intelligence says that Hamas is hiding there. (tit-for-tat war crimes, and of course it is innocents who suffer, while the perps on both sides go free). I doubt that in this stage of the attack, there was any military reason to actually target this school.
So I easily accept that it was a miss of the intended target, much more readily than I think that a school was deliberately targeted.
58Sunliner
(6,291 posts)Yes it could have been a miss, but they targeted an area with a school and didn't care about the risk. Psychopaths are often motivated by sadism. Do you think Putin needed to bomb hospitals? He chose targets that would demoralize people.
RandomNumbers
(19,141 posts)overseeing it, we STILL manage to miss the actual target and bomb a school - and TSF's admin wants to give AI this power. In other words, things could get far far worse than we are seeing now. (not diminishing the horrific evil of what we are seeing now ... just that it, sadly, is NOT the bottom.)

(27,468 posts)Middle East welcome this war. We know Israel does. What worries me is the unpredictability of the outcome. It will destabilize and cause chaos throughout the region, and the winners and losers can't be predicted at this point. People won't be winners, but certain regimes will. When the dust settles, who knows what we're going to see in terms of a new balance.

Foolish that they think this will work out better for them. But then, they had no interest in Iran becoming a democracy either.

The reason; it's another step to Krasnov's move to making America a dictatorship, another progression in the process. Krasnov can go to war with whoever he wants and whenever he wants, he doesn't even have to give a heads up to our allies.
Quit trying to rationalize war, go read Major General Smedley Butler's book, War Is A Racket.

(12,344 posts)All the damage has been from ballistic missiles & drones, not the Iranian air force, what would they have used, their F-4 Phantoms or the F-14 Tomcats? All 50+ years old and more dangerous to the pilots.
They have (or did) around 20 old Mig-29B's but the IDF/USAF would swat those out of the sky way before they left Iran.
With all the IDF/USAF fighter/bombers over Iran you can bet their are several AWAC's near and a fighter cover over Iran.
