https://www.newson6.com/tulsa-oklahoma-news/oklahoma-senate-bill-targets-certain-nonprofits-aiding-undocumented-immigrantsTULSA, Okla. -Theres growing debate over a bill in the Oklahoma Senate. Senate Bill 1554 would punish some nonprofits providing certain kinds of assistance to undocumented immigrants.
It was introduced by Oklahoma Senator Randy Grellner.
It goes after non-government organizations, charitable organizations that receive funds from state and local sources. Its a mechanism to go back and to get those [organizations] to have some accountability for those organizations spending money that they shouldnt be spending.
If passed, it would prevent non-governmental organizations that receive state and local funds from providing material support to illegal immigrants.
Material support is defined in the bill as food, shelter, housing, transportation, legal services, medical care, financial assistance, or any other tangible aid or resource.
This bill punishes compassion, said Julie Davis, the CEO for YWCA in Tulsa, an organization that often helps immigrants

And Republicans are consistent in their ignorance of the law.
That an immigrant might be undocumented doesnt mean hes illegal asylees are entitled to due process until their asylum applications are completed; their presence in the country is perfectly lawful until an asylum determination is made.
This proposed measure is reprehensible and wrongheaded.
